A question about YouTube traffic

Hey,

I've made videos that get a pretty good amount of views, and videos which get almost none.

All of my videos rank pretty high or at the top of Youtube because that's easy to do, so what's the difference?

If you've tried the YT keyword tool you know it pretty much sucks, so is it even possible to do enough KW research to know what will get traffic in YouTube?

Or is it more of the whole "make great videos and people will find them" thing that you guys do? Because as far as I can tell, people just don't search YT the same as they search Google, and most of my traffic on my more popular videos is referral traffic...from Youtube, not Google searches.

Here's the question:

So how do you know if you'll get traffic or not? Or do you? Or do you just make videos that you think people will like and hope for the best?

I obviously want to make good videos, but it sucks to make one and see it get zero traffic...

One thing I do specifically is look at the traffic trends of my competitor's YT vids.

it's something about getting a lot of subscribers and making videos to respond to highly viewed videos

Ranking in Youtube or Google search results is only one way to get traffic (actually 2 ways).

Getting videos to be "related" or "suggested" videos that appear on other popular videos may be the best way to get traffic.

There's also video responses, shares, comments, top comment, etc that drives traffic.

For sure, we need to create the video first before knowing this will get a huge of traffic or not. Unless you create some videos, you'll never know it.

Good videos is from your point of view or visitor's point of view ? They are definitely two different things.

Try to make a video which entertains people. Remember, people go to youtube because they are seeking entertainment, not products/services, otherwise they will go to related sites such: ebay, amazon, and so forth.

Before creating videos, you should have the purpose. Is it for building list through your squeeze page link on the description ? Is it for direct sales ? Or is it just for generating traffic only ?

Different purposes will have different content too from what you will put in the video

This is the case for some people to be sure (especially kids), but no... Youtube is a powerful search engine all in itself and people use it to search for many other things, outside of entertainment.

In fact, I would bet now that most "how to" searches are done on Youtube rather than Google.

Not necessarily..."How To" videos are also very popular on Youtube. You can do pretty well with "How To" videos, with a link to relevant supplies/products in the description.
