Facebook cracks down on fake accounts and false likes | | Independent Editor's choice Blogs

This is a good thing and I don't know how it will affect the IM game.

The should return money to the investors who thought these accounts were real while they're at it.

I also agree with you. Fake accounts can be easily recognized by a regular facebook user. There are handful of real accounts getting registered everyday whereas thousands of fake accounts are getting registered. Most of them are for internet marketing purpose. This can be marked as clear cut cheating.

I still got all 7 of my fans

LOL I don't use Facebook much for marketing as of right now, but it's good to see that they are removing these junk accounts. I'll probably get more into Facebook in the future, but I don't want to lose focus which is so easy to do!

    Thanks for the share!

Well, I work in comics, animation and other major media. My friends and colleagues who are celebrities or who own popular properties hate the fan pages that are set up to only muddy things up. It can often get the stars themselves into trouble. Agents and agencies that rep these people are furious as it takes money out of their mouths. A real fan page is something different though and celebs like them. For Facebook to crack down on fake accounts and rip off fan pages is a good thing. Pretty soon Facebook is going to ask for a driver's license or some form of ID to be a member.

When we're talking about numbers though, with almost a billion members if they tried to police just 3,000 pages a day it would take them 30,000 years to finish. Facebook has to hire tons of people to do this.

Well.. there goes about 1/2 the Facebook users. You can thank all of the internet marketers for that

      Nio93,

      My thoughts exactly...

It will do wonders for their stock price...

If they really get rid of the fakes... All of a sudden, that one billion user mark... Will be many years off...

I personally think they'll never really crack down.... They just need to say they are to satisfy the investors...

      God Bless,

I just wish people who hire these guys to get them fake likes would understand that there is little benefit to it. I mean it might have some very small effect because of the 'band wagon effect' but in the end what good is it having follower that arent real . you might as well be talking to no one.

          FirstSocialApps,

Yes... The bandwagon effect is the only benefit I see as well.
