How To Leverage Twitter And Facebook Users

Hi guys...I have a news site (The Intelligence News | Defense News | Iran News | Syria News)

I have more than 7000 twitter followers and about 1100 facebook likes. I am trying to figure out how to leverage those followers to get more traffic.

Is it best just to ask? Does anyone run any low-cost twitter or facebook contests?

Id love anyone's thoughts on this.

    Nope, I sell nothing. Just provide great content, from across the web, all in one place...for free.

    My goal is to get enough unique visitors to sell private ads. At the moment I have a horrible ad network that will at best pay me $3.00 per thousand and is currently paying $1.00 per thousand. I know there are a lot worse ad networks, but $400 per/mo aint letting me live very well.
