Where Can I Find Full-Time Writing Work?

I am a freelance writer and began back in 2009. I have worked for hit and miss content mills and such and have had some good work but for the most part, i am going months without making a dime.

I have a rate of $1 per 100 words which is where I have been for 3 years, which I am fine with because I know people prefer lower rates. My content is good and unique, but I just cannot have any luck finding full-time writing work. I go to school online and stay at home and have such as passion to make writing a career for me.

    There are several websites:
    Elance
    Guru
    Warriors for hire

Then sell articles at constant content

Getting unlimited work for a single writer at this rate may not be very easy, but is achievable.

I am not having luck with Elance or Guru, but I will have to try the Warriors for Hire!

If you haven't tried Odesk, go for it. I worked there for 40 hours each week for 3 complete years. Also, try Peopleperhour. You can also build a website and sell your articles from there. PM me for more help.

    Wordsuwant,

If you write copy - you can get a huge jumpstart by getting paid on a performance basis.

Meaning, you tell your client "Pay me after My writing has made you money"

If you are an outstanding write you can EARN more this way and it's free massive exposure.

Use your time to get results for others, charge afterwards.

    Switch up your approach.

I know this isn't exactly what you were asking, but have you thought about using your writing skills to publish on Kindle? Amazon's KDP platform has a great opportunity for self published authors to create multiple streams of passive income with their books.

    Think like an entrepreneur.

Don't look for a place to find full time writing work, create one!

Start up a website where you can blog about being a content provider, which gives you a showcase for your work - and promote your services on forums, with small media buys, etc. Treat your business like a business, my friend, and it will start to act like one!

I've been writing content like a beast for about a year now, I started off with a lot of client work and most of it came from one small post on a small marketing forum and LOTS of word of mouth referrals. I would get so many referrals from all of my clients that I had to stop taking on new ones.

Then I got to a point where I was more comfortable with designing sites, etc, so it was more worthwhile for me to publish what I write, rather than to sell it to a client for them to publish. So now I only take on select clients for my article writing service. Rather than jack up the prices, which also adds some stress and pressure to the mix, I kept them around $15/500 words.

I find that the BEST clients to have are the people who are going to make money off of my articles. The repeat clients, who know they can order an article from me -> do their thing on the publish side, and almost always see a strong return. If Client-X knows they can order a review article from me for $20-30, publish it and make over $800 the first month alone - they're really not going to complain about paying more than $1 per 100 words, are they? Professionalism and results go a LONG way in this business. Getting it done when you say it's going to be done is how you get the referrals. Lucky for us, a lot of writers get this SO wrong.

Sorry, I didn't mean to make this all about me but I just wanted to share some of my own personal experiences. Also, I want to note that while I did recommend that you put up a website, I've yet to create a website to promote my own content writing after nearly a year since I've managed to, thankfully, stay fairly busy with it. That being said, my plan has always been to throw up a site when things get slow... Knock on wood. Try to over-deliver, and really put care into the words you're selling and you will find people coming back for more.

At $1/100 words, honestly, you're weeding out what could be some of your best clients. People who know how to make money off of good articles aren't going to worry about the cost nearly as much. I'd say get yourself off of those sites that are taking big commissions and not getting you enough clients, and take that into your own hands.

Flex your marketing muscles a bit, because they are great skills to have - even as a content provider!

Build your own website, then advertise your services. I started in 2008, and have so much work that I can hardly take on new clients most weeks. What I have done is SEO'd my ghostwriting websites, posted articles on article directories and blogged about various areas related to content writing - and I have made more than I have ever made in my life. YOU CAN DO THIS!!

Constant Content is a great place to make LUCRATIVE money IF you're an exceptional writer. I've sold several articles there for $60 and more, one week making several hundred dollars for 4 articles. Just figure out ways to get your services out there, and do your very best work!

    Good luck to you

Well, there's your problem. You can't hope to build up a full time schedule or income when you're writing for peanuts and your target audience is beginner IMers who don't understand content (and go out of business).

      This.

"And go out of business" is a huge point.

Sometimes it's even "And don't ever really quite get into business".

When you write $5 articles, you need to advertise for clients all the time, because the ones you have don't have businesses that survive. Typically, they misunderstand article marketing, and as a result, they disappear. It's simple: the reason you see writers of $5 articles advertising all the time is that they need to replace their clients all the time.

The reason you don't see writers of $100/$150 articles advertising for new clients all the time isn't (as some imagine) that they don't exist - there are many right here in the WF - it's that they're pretty fully booked with regularly returning customers who understand what they need to buy, and why, and know how to use it. (They're different articles, needless to say!).

It's all about deciding in which markets you want to compete for work.
And that's determined by your marketing skills, not just by your writing skills.

One thing is for sure: starting with low prices and increasing them when you have regular clients doesn't work. Most of those clients' own businesses don't survive. And even the few who do a little better want to buy $5 articles because they cost $5. Up go the prices and away go the clients. But if I had $10 for every time I've seen low-price writers here advising people to "start cheap and then gradually increase prices", I wouldn't have to work at all. :p

I started off writing articles for people at five times what you're charging now, when I was barely 18 (many of the customers didn't know that, and it wasn't relevant to them), and rapidly learned that even that was far too little to attract the best clients.

(I don't do that any more, at all - I now just write for myself, by the way: I'm not saying any of this to promote a writing service: I have none to promote!).

That's why you have the problem. Sorry, but it's true.

Here are some posts/threads which may help you ...(one of these posts also has a long list of additional resources linked to, inside it, some of which are about "writing and selling articles at higher prices").

Are There Many Clients Who Pay $50/Article?

How do I make money writing articles???

The appropriate rate for written content is ?

You must be a superstar professional writer BUT I can only pay you $2 per article - say WHAT?

Any point in trying to find clients on Warrior Forum..?
