Anyone use Statcounter for stat tracking?

I am curious how acurate Statcounter.com is for tracking traffic. A friend sent a message to his list and told me that he had 500 clicks. My Statecounter account shows 7 uniques and 16 page loads. A big difference between what he shows and my tracking shows.

I am a bit concerned because of this.

I've found it best to use a link tracker on top of your usual analytic package. Prosper202 is a free one and a little complicated but it will let you get an accurate count of links as well as split test and conversion track.

I've found statcounter accurate in the past though and even if the referrers are missing you should be able to see the unique IPs spike.

You can also use Piwik - Web analytics - Open source which you can self host. Its got all the possible tracking systems in place and its open source. I've used it in the past before Google Analytics added the live visitors section. I was doing a social site and wanted to see what was driving traffic in real time.

StatCounter is excellent and has been super helpful for me. One of the things to look into once it's set up on your website is all the tracking features on the left hand side to learn more about your visitors.

    Best of all it's free

As others have now said, statcounter is a very good source of information. I now use it exclusively on all my sites. For me it's got everything I need to know.

Including those that Google Analytics has? I think that's the missing information we want StatCounter to have.

Why not using Google Analytic ? I think GA is the best for tracking.

Tim, I've used StatCounter for the last 3years...have found it to be very accurate. They've improved recently, too. Considered using Google Analytics also, but figure G knows enough about my business already.

I've found statcounter to be pretty accurate. As others have said, it does not have as many features as GA, but I like to keep the BIG G guessing as much as possible.

Hopefully SC will add more as time goes on.

Yes, i use stat counter on all of my websites. It's very accurate, except that it shows some eccentricities while recording ad clicks..

I use statcounter for all of my websites. Before I did, I tested
several others and I liked statcounter best. It's pretty accurate
    if you ask me.

I have been using just Statcounter. I think its pretty accurate even when I compare the stats from Google Analytics. Tell him to give you a screenshot of his autoresponder.

As everyone seemed to agree, Statcounter is pretty reliable. So I wonder why his click counter states 500 clicks, and I only shoe\w 7 visitors (as I e\remember).

My fear is that he will think I am trying to cheat him.

I just can't imagine that he sent the message to 10,000 subscribers and not a single person purchased. Maybe I shouldn't have agreed to pay him a percentage of sales. He has no way of verifying my honesty in giving him his just receipts. Now I wonder if he trusts me.

Whats your average conversion rate in the past? Ignore the 10,000 part - the people who clicked the link are the only people that matter, or the people who actually read the email - it wasn't 10,000 people. Have you tested the links in his ad to make sure everything is correct?

If he cracks a stink then make a temp login or print out some statcounter reports so he can see what you're seeing. Ask him to do the same from his email provider. I highly recommend using some sort of tool to measure your links for future attempts.
