Upsell On Giveaway Or Before?

Hey guys,

I was wondering, do you guys prefer to upsell before the prospect has access to the giveaway? I.e. after prospect confirms email, are they taken to an OTO/Upsell before getting to the giveaway?

Alternatively, does anybody offer the OTO/upsell on the page of the giveaway? i.e. prospect sees your free offer and is then offered a product...

Am I confusing it here? Are these 2 different things? I think it makes sense to offer the product on the page of giveaway, since you can warm up the prospect.

I'm just wondering what has worked best for you guys? I will likely test both ways

Any help appreciated.

Joey

Depends on your sales funnel.. whatever converts better. Test first.. ask questions later.

Of course, speculation will never be as valuable as actually testing it out in your funnel - but I think it also depends on your giveaway. If you're offering something of value, I think it makes sense to introduce the OTO after they've had a chance to see that you're the real deal. If your giveaway item is perhaps not of the highest caliber (No judgements here, I have no idea what your product or offer is etc..), then it might make sense to plug the OTO first. Looking forward to seeing what everyone else thinks on this one, however

Not a chance in hell that I attempt to sell on confirmation. I don't see this as a long term strategy and is a great way to shoot yourself in the foot.

What is the benefit of this kind of tactic. You might might might get lucky and make a sale and prove that the subscriber buys...

If treated in the right way the majority of subscribers will buy anyway and the loss of $50 or what ever you make is inconsequential...

    The risks are far greater...

You immediately position yourself and show your first/main agenda... to get money out of them...

So the client/prospect is 100% the most important person...
    They pay the wages right...

Immediate upsell doesn't fit in with this concept (to me anyway.)

Rich Shefren describes it well by saying that each piece of content needs to stand on its own. When he launched his continuity program he set up a series of valued content videos and didn't even mention "the main event" until some way into the process.

When someone offers me a "FREE" gift
in an email and I have to then enter my
email address AGAIN to collect the
free gift that was just offered to me in
an email... I'm grumbling by then....

If i see an upsell/OTO on the next page
    you bet I'm gone...

    Unless we've established a relationship
    first.

the other thing that bugs the ...... out
    of me....

incongruity between sales page and what's
    actually delivered.

before you send something to your subscribers
ask a few STRANGERS to test it for you...

Friends will not necessarily give you REAL
    and honest feedback.

    Just my two cents worth

You should split test and see which one goes better

Hey guys thanks so much for your replies.

I watched an interesting video by J Walker the other day called "the sideways sales letter" which sums up similar things to what everyone else is saying.

Perhaps I should have autoresponder set up 3 or 4 different freebies, before throwing the OTO/Upsell out.

      Thanks a lot guys!

I'd go with having indeed some freebies before trying to upsell. This way you'll keep your list happy.
