Ebooks - I am new to all this and need help

Hy people...
I am new to all this and I need help regarding some issues.
I would like to venture into business of writing and publishing ebooks.
I am creative person, been working in magazine publishing for 15 years as art director and have skills to produce nice looking ebooks.
Also I have some writing and editorial skills. So, producing the product would be the easier part for me.
I have few points of interests that I would like to write about.
One of them is poker (i have idea and draft for one poker book that will be first on the market), other one is fitness and third is men's style.

I think the poker book would be greatest sell cause there is no book like this on the market yet, but it is the toughest to write and I dont wanna deliver some semi product. I want it to be really good.
So, I have several questions regarding business. I did some research already but I need to clarify some things.

So, if I understand this all, things go like this:

1. I write a book.

2. I would like to publish it on Amazon as kindle edition and maybe as print on demand option as paperback. Also I need to set up my own site for selling it there also.
Also I have heard that I can sell it through Lulu, Barnes & Noble and other sites that sell ebooks. Also I heard that I can have affiliates sell it for me through clickbank.com. One thing that I am not shore is how much do I have to pay to these affiliates per sold copy. I heard 75%, is that true? It seems too much!
Through which other channels can I sell it also?

3. I have to do some marketing. What are the best options for this, cause this is the most puzzling aspect for me.
Its not that I would not know how, but where?
If I have my web site for the book, how do I drive traffic there?
I see that some of you have huge mailing lists, maybe you can push it for some fee?
What are the best solutions to market ebook?

I am willing to make it work and to put hard work into this but I dont know how to market the product. Well I know how to make catching copy and sales page but I dont know how to expose the product to the market.

Any help will do.
Thanx

Look for some of the top sellers on Amazon and Barnes and Noble Pubit.. and try to write ebooks on those topics if possible...They market themselves if you get in the top 10..Never use any plr or much content that is readily available on the internet..Pet ebooks do well for me..one of best sellers is an ebook about a certain kind of fish

But isnt it all on the internet!?
      Why you dont recommend plr?

Well the book that I plan to write about poker will be the first of a kind cause its specialy targeted but it will take long time to write cause topic is big and I dont wanna do lousy product.
I also have some ideas about writing ebooks for men. Sort of self help but not in a traditional way.
My main concern is how to market it.

Probably the best thing you could do before you get started, is go to the Warrior Special Offer section here and look over the various Kindle courses.

There are a number of them here, and usually they are in the range of $7 to $10.

It's been a while since I've read a few of them, so I can't recall the names.. but if you just searched for kindle training or something I'm sure they'll show up.

    All the best,
    Patrick

    For book/e-book marketing:

Book marketing tips and book promotion ideas from expert John Kremer

Read the Kindle terms of service carefully. Amazon wants to be the cheapest source, so that may impact the price on your own website. (No biggy. Amazon gets a hell of lot more traffic than any of us ever will on our own!)

As far as WSOs - it's strictly caveat emptor with very strong emphasis on the caveat. The better choice is to spring for US$37 and join the WarRoom (which it appears you may have to do to get access to the pending Warrior Book Club forum).

Actually, joining the War Room won't get you access to the Warrior Book Club. The latter is a separate forum, and membership to that isn't open yet. It will be very soon.

      Thanks,
      Bryan

        WSO's - Warrior Special Offers

It's a place to pitch your new idea, and test it out on some of the greatest marketers around. A nice option is to offer your product for free/reduced price (limited by quantity) in exchange for quality feedback and testimonials.

I suggest hitting the home page of the Warrior Forum and looking at all the different groups available to interact with, you'll find the WSO section there.

When you sell a product on Clickbank, you set the commission. Of course, if you want to make it attractive to affiliates you have to offer them a competitive rate. This is usually at least 50%, though it also depends on the price of the book.

    Thanx
Affiliates can and will sell your book for you if they can earn money from
    doing that..

What you want to do is think "further down the track.." You build a list of all of the people who purchase your book, while paying your affiliates good money..

They are happy and will keep promoting it, and your buyers list is being built by them..

You can then continue producing poker books, maybe video courses, audio products, monthly membership sites and selling more products to them because you have already established trust and credibility with them..

    All the best..

Great questions and yes your magazine design experience will help in terms of what you learned helps magazines sell as well as professional design.

You have many different questions going off in all directions however, so I'll try and highlight the important areas so you can make meaningful progress...

    1. 90% of Ebook success (whether sold on Kindle or as pdf from your own website or through CB) has to do with the market, topic and title - all of these related of course and need to be well aligned. You mention poker - that can be lucrative if you have something truly unique, the challenge is that you have severe restrictions on who will list such products (CB has recently tightened their rules as has Amazon) so you need to be prepared to sell this from your own site AND entirely rely on JV's/affiliates to drive traffic (since many paid sources of traffic will be off limits such as PPC) Sales channel then is the issue with that topic. Your other two options need to be further defined/refined...health as well as men's personal improvement are too general - what you want to do is focus on a specific challenge or desire within those niches and yes, you can do extremely well with a wider opportunity of channel

    2. As to what format you use to publish your ebook...that has to do more with a) Your overall publishing plan - will you do 1 or multiple products, will there be a mix of low-price entry products with higher-priced back-end and what is your ultimate goal for the business - when you plan all of this it will become clear what your first step should be and b) your topic - some topics lend themselves more to mass appeal at lower cost versus other topics which can be highly specialized and more expensive which also helps you decide on the best platform c) your competition...a good strategy to enter competitive markets can sometimes be entering with a high-end product where there is already tons of low-end competition - you grab the top 20% of the spenders that generate 80% of the profit and become a leader in that niche/sub-niche

    3. Regarding marketing...my preference is a combination of building your own profile through content (videos, blog, social networking) + strong JV's/partnerships through affiliate program to leverage their market position - all of this must be designed to bring traffic into a well setup sales funnel where it converts cold/semi-warm prospects into fans and customers as you work them through your sales funnel (yes, part of this is building a list). Using this approach you can go from 1-2% mediocre conversions to 5-6% or more winning conversions opening lots of new doors for added traffic (partners will love your conversions and so will want to promote you, paid advertising makes sense at those margins, etc...)

Hope that helps bring some perspective.

    Jeff

Thanx JBSmith, this is a great answer, although I dont understand what is a JV and PPC. I am new to all this and I am reading a lot of materials but some things are not clear yet.
I see that I have to find a niche for bigger sales, but i find it so hard.
Everything is already out there, how to reinvent the wheel?!
My poker book will be unique but it will take long time to prepare. Thats my biggest concern.
My other topics which I wanted to write about are sort of a guides for modern man. I had in mind 2 ebooks for a start, something about "how to treat a lady - modern mans book of good manners", and book on men's style. How to dress up for each occasion. But these topics are covered in so many books that I dont know if it will work.

    A few tips:

Look at the BEST SELLERS on Kindle.

Does your book fit into those niches?

Also, do a little keyword research. Amazon ranks VERY HIGH on Google, so if the title of your book fits well into your keyword research, extra bonus.

Also, make sure your book doesn't suck, and if you have a list, BLAST It

There is a lot of garbage on spamazon, I mean spam zone. OK so that means they are really decking down on KDP and punishing authors now. Please do believe me when I tell you that getting a book out is not as easy as a few years ago. Look to get people to review it.

Would you buy a book with zero reviews. Probably the answer is no. Most people like to buy books from known authors whom they trust and not an unknown of dubious provenance. Keep that in mind when you are selling your e-book on the internet and good luck to you.
