Google's Keyword Tool one things to keep in mind when researching keywords

I was doing some research using the Google Adwords Keyword Tool and thought you guys might find this interesting and something to keep in mind when doing keyword research. Google's keyword tool uses the search totals from the previous 12 and displays the average (do an exact match search and download the csv file for monthly breakdown).

Here's some examples (exact match)

rose bowl tickets 2012 (keyword, game played on January 2, 2011)
590 (current search numbers)
5,400 (peak numbers December 2011)
0 (actual search numbers June 2012)

----

samsung 55 led (keyword)
4,400 (current search numbers)
14,800 (peak numbers November 2011)
1,600 (actual search numbers August 2012)

---

Sony KDL40BX420 (keyword)
880 (current search numbers)
19,000 (peak numbers December 2011)
110 (actual search numbers August 2012)

For evergreen keywords such as weight loss. dating, credit, etc. if you look at the search numbers annually as a whole it probably won't matter much, it'll average out over the year. When it peaks the search numbers will be lower (than what the GAKT is displaying), when it bottoms out the search numbers will be higher, but the monthly average should be close.

But if it's a fad, electronic gadget, diet, weight loss supplements, TVs, etc. it could make a big difference depending if you catch it on the upswing, or downswing. Do a search in the beginning of the year in February, March, etc. after Christmas really skews the numbers. Some products such as electronic gadgets, specific models of HDTVs or electronics, etc. never make it back.

Yeah I know this is only the Google search engine data, but just trying to say that the search popularity may not be as it seems.

      No it doesn't.

What I meant was the search numbers the GAKT is displaying is a 12 MONTH AVERAGE. Which means that the search numbers it's showing reflects the previous 12 months stats rather than the previous month like it used to do. Download the csv and see the monthly breakdown and you'll understand better.

Use the Google Insight beside the returned terms and that will provide graphic information for the terms you want to see.
