Say, if you're targeting a keyword that gets 1600 local searches per month. How much traffic would you expect from targeting/ranking for that keyword?
#traffic

I'd say somewhere around 650 visitors if you manage to rank 1st for that keyword. There are case studies that imply 1st place on Google gets only 36% CTR, but that depends on the niche. In my experience, it somewhere between 40% - 45%.

Over fifty percent of the traffic is shared between the first 4 sites on page one.

No exact figure because there are lots of variables.

Aim for position 3 and above and you will get significant share of the traffic.

1st rank will probably get 500-1000 monthly clicks.
    2nd rank half of that.
3rd rank half of the 2nd rank or around 3/4th of the second rank
10th rank probably 10-30+ at most in a month.

It depends on a lot of things. I've heard of instances where site #3 was pulling more than site #2, etc - Think of your meta description as an actual headline + copy and you'll almost certainly pull more traffic.

There is no standard answer because there are too many variables.

For example - if the search term is "red dog collar USA" and your results shows up with the text "red pet collar" highlighted that's one thing, but if your listing shows up with "high quality, low price, fast and free delivery red dog collar Texas" and the searcher is in Texas - you'll get the click.

You just need to test these things for yourself and see what YOUR results are - they're the only ones that matter.

    Hi:

You can also try to additionally target a similar keyword and gain the benefit of people searching for the second term as well.

There are factors you need to consider to get an approximate volume of traffic to your site for that keyword. First is the quality of your content.

You should be able to pull 500-600 hits from the search figure you mentioned. Have you already optimized your site for this keyword term?
