Twitter Noob - Running Retweet Contests?

I want to drive traffic to a kickstarter project using Twitter, but i'm honestly not sure how Twitter works in that respect.

My basic idea is to
- Contestants get their followers to retweet my kickstarter link.
- Contestant with the most followers who retweet, get a prize.(if and only if the kickstarter funds? or a cash prize?)

But i'm not sure how to verify # of retweets, as I'm a noob to twitter

    You will want to use Promoted Tweets by twitter because that would be the best way to get targeted tweets.

    Unless you have a huge following, it would be hard to pull off a Retweet contest if you are just starting out a New Twitter profile.

    Partner it with facebook. The viral capabilities in Facebook is unmatched when it comes to contests.

    As you have said that you are noob to twitter. But i believe that you are not noob in other social networking sites. Right? Use those sites wisely to improve number of followers.

    twitter contests for driving traffic to a kickstarter project can be a goldmine--- get enough traffic and your project gets promoted on the kickstarter.com website--- just offer something that dumb teenagers want like tickets and your off to the races
