Alternative To Craigslist

Hi guys,

I have a friend who is a web designer who has just been made redundant. He is looking to do some freelance work while he looks for another employer.

Does anybody have any alternatives to craigslist when it comes to being able to look for companies and people looking for freelancers. I have already advised him re elance etc.

Many thanks for your replies...it's much appreciated, especially by him!!

    You might try Kijiji.com

I haven't had a whole lot of luck selling things there, but I haven't tried it as a marketing platform, either.

On the other hand, you might tell him to take this opportunity to start his own business and stop slaving for other people. If he's a talented web designer, with a little bit of marketing he should be lining up work a couple weeks out.

Use the "warriors for hire" section or the WSO, if he is a decent designer he will get a decent amount of work.

Think outside the box, he could create a pack of say 10 ready made blogs and sell it as a WSO package - I've seen someone do that before and make like $4000...

    ... The possibilities are endless.

How about backpage.com? I like them and advertise on them. Easier to deal with than kijiji too.

To find potential clients who are already looking/asking around for web design, I use LinkedIn (join relevant groups), Twitter (search for keywords in tweets such as "need website" or "web design") & ODesk is a gold mine, although a bit competitive. The Warrior Forum is my main source though, definitely think about creating a WSO to get your foot in the door
