Will Amazon ever eliminate affiliates?

I don't want to be an alarmist, but after I saw Amazon's excluded list https://affiliate-program.amazon.com...ing/exclusions I went to Amazon's discussion forum, came away rather worried.

More than one person believes that it's only a matter of time before Amazon totally eliminates their associates program altogether, given the authority they've acquired.

Maybe these people were overreacting to these exclusions; I don't know.

What are the opinions here?

Amazon won't need to discontinue. States like mine will do it for them.

Well its been around since 96 and Amazon established their online global dominance years ago. They must get new customers continuelly because of the associates program so it must be in their interest to keep it.

It would be a very poor business decisions. Millions of low commission sales staff, promoting you endlessly is a pretty good situation to be in.

Amazon, is only looking to grow, such a decision is not in that best interest.

Amazon should disable linking and should not provide codes to excluded products to avoid confusions.

It is only my thought - they will continue the program as it is an ongoing battle.
If they keep all of us away, some new company will take advantage of these droplets.
These droplets may not be a big deal individually, but does matter as a group.

This is a good point. I hadn't pictured things that way.

I really doubt that the affiliate program will be dropped. When you account for how much affiliates contribute to Amazon's bottom line, it would not make sense for them to do so.

Those items are on the list because Amazon and/or the manufacturer want to control the marketing of the product. You will find that over 99% of the products out there you can still promote as an affiliate.
