Input needed about purchasing and operating a site located in a different country.....

I have spent the better part of my day researching the topic of purchasing and operating a website that is located in a different country (and geared to that country specifically).

Surprisingly, I could not find much info.

So....I am turning to my fellow warrriors to see if anyone has any insight in this area.

I am not concerned about the language, culture or market differences. I am more concerned about legal issues, payment issues, etc.

From the material I was able to find, there doesn't seem to be any reason for me to be concerned. Hopefully that's the case, however, I just thought I'd throw the idea out to you guys and see what thoughts and suggestions you may have.

Thanks!

What type of a website are you looking for? Can you be a little more specific?

I'm not looking for a webiste. I have been approached about purchasing one.

I am looking for feedback about the pros and cons of this type of business.

    Sorry for the confusion.

I was also concerned about this when I first bought a couple of websites that were marketed as businesses in a box on Flippa.

So I talked to my father who is a lawyer, and he introduced me to another lawyer who knew about International Business Law.

If I remember correctly he asked me some questions.

Is this "business in a box" an actual business, meaning is it an actual Registered business? And in which country is it registered?

And are you personally buying it under your name? Or are you buying it under your business name?

So as an example is it Flash Marketing LLC buying Warrior Branding LLC?

Or is it Janet Smith buying examplewebsite.com

What I was told is if it is one business buying another then yes there are legal issues and especially if it is one business in one country buying another business in another country.

But if it is just you buying a website that is marketed as a business but is not actually a business then that is you buying a product, not a business.

And in that case there are no legal issues.

But again I am no lawyer, and what I wrote above is only what I can remember out of what I was told.

I see that you live in Canada. Well you can get a free consultation with a Lawyer. So it might be worth it to call one up.

EDIT: I just looked over my post and saw the names that I came up with for my examples, lol, wow I must be tired. I think it is time to go to bed. lol

That is some excellent information! I never thought of it like that.

My website, for example, is being advertised as an e-commerce "business," although I never registered it with the state or anything. So I guess that 'should' make it easier to sell if someone would want to register the domain name as a business in their state or country.
