Tracking my Websites and Blogs

I want to start tracking my websites and blogs that are hosted on Hostgator. I see that on the Hostgator control panel you can select tracking data for sites. Would there be any benefit in adding the Google analytics tool to my sites and would the data be different or the same.
If I was to use Google analytics would it be more beneficial to have a static main page on my Blog or not.

    Hostgator has their own stats and will provide not only more information, but better as well than Google Analytics. The information would be the same, but Analytics has a little easier interface.
    I believe Hostgator uses AWStats which is what I've used for years and have grown accustomed to. But that's not to say I don't enjoy using Analytics for my blog. Sometimes AWStats is a little *too* good.

    Depending on the host you use you might have AWstats available with a single click
    It gives you a wealth of information and you don't have to mess around inserting code into every page of you site
    Also you don't have to wait until google analytics loads

    I use AWstats on the sites I have which have Cpanel I just wish I could find somebody who could install in on a site which uses Hsphere.
