? number of users = ? amount of money

Just trying to get an idea of how many users would it take to generate a certain amount of income (guaranteed) on a monthly basis.

Suppose I have a site with free access.
The affiliate commission is $10.

Is it safe to say that 10% of the users would purchase on a monthly basis? Is that the general rule of thumb? In other words, 2000 users for a month would = 200 purchases?

TIA

Sorry, but I don't think you can get solid, or even close to solid, numbers like that. There are just way to many variables - the type of market you're working in, the value you provide, etc etc. So many things can affect your conversions.

An average conversion rate would be around 1%. 10% is high. But like Jay said, conversion rate depends on many things for example how targeted are your visitors, etc.

Number of users = Money is false.

    1) Number of users that are coming to your site = money when you exactly have what they are looking for!
    2) Niche !!!!!!!!!!! (main player)
    3) You ability to convert the user to $$

Test it and you will know. Every niche is different and it depends on the relationship you build with potential costumers. The quality of service or product is very important as well. You also don't know if you have targeted list or just freebie seekers. You need to test everything and build a great relationship, business. Copywriting is important!

Other factors such as how targeted your traffic is, how active they are, their relationship with you, how you got them, their financial state...all affect that equation.

The only way to make that equation work is with paid subscriptions. Then you can multiply the number of paid subscriptions times the subscription fee to get revenue.

The only time it works like that for the free membership + affiliate offers model is in how-to manuals. Honest writers will tell you that their examples are just examples, and that like stock market investments, past performance does not guarantee future results.
