Don't know who to ask.. so I will just put it out there...

Last week I got a 3 day ban for saying something I didn't know I wasn't suppose to say. Yikes!

So, right now I have a coupon code for go daddy to get a $5.00 ( or less ) domains... am I allowed to post it?

I see people post coupons like that all the time, so I don't see why you'd get in trouble for it.

Now, whatever got you banned for the 3 days last time - its probably a good idea NOT to do that again. hahaha

I think everyone would appreciate the coupon codes to get better deals for their domains, etc. But without spamming.

The problem with including referral links, even with useful things like discount domain codes, is that they would quickly make the discussion forum look more like the local penny shopper. From there, it's a slippery slope to affiliate spam hell, paved with arguments over what's a useful offer and what's spam.

In the past, one could sometimes get away with a referral link in response to a direct request for information. The caveats were that you identified the link as a commission-able referral link, and that you also provided the plain link for those who objected. Like all good things, enough people tried to push things with tactics like shill accounts. So that practice is basically out, too.

And to paraphrase your last line...

Hey, if you don't want to get banned again for posting referral links, then don't!

The reason why this forum is good is because it is moderated by "sticklers." If everyone just posted their offers here, no one would come for the discussion. After all, who wants to read a forum that's stuffed to the gills with shiny ads and promotions? Not me. I like discussing stuff without having to wade through dozens of ads.

How would a forum with 565,000 members look if they weren't sticklers about anything "illicitly promotional"?

I think the surprising thing, in many ways, is how few rules there are here, and how sensitively and realistically they're interpreted. But with anything "spammy", being sticklers is absolutely essential.

If this is what you meant by "posting a discount code for GoDaddy":

    http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...ml#post7097511

you likely just earned yourself another ban.

That's not posting a coupon code. That's posting a naked affiliate link for a site offering members a discount code.

Exactly the kind of bullshit tactic that makes allowing affiliate links unworkable.

Let me give you a clue. The discussion forums are not for:

selling stuff whether they are your own product or affiliate links
    self promotion
    pre promotion
    spamming of any kind
    shilling other people's products

Those are just a few no nos. As you can see by this now deleted thread,
    http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...ml#post7097511

It's not allowed so stop trying to get around the rules. If you want to advertise, there are paid sections that allow you to do that. If you don't want to pay, you can't advertise in any way, shape or form. It's that simple.

Signatures are free advertising that are allowed and NO AFFILIATE LINKS are allowed in signatures.

I got in trouble for posting something negative about a WSO I bought and the post was soon gone. They are more strict now.

There are hundreds (maybe thousands) of negative comments about WSO's people have bought. They're not removed as long as they're calm and factual and from customers and posted in the same thread. The guidelines for that situation are pretty clear.

Was it in the WSO thread, or in another section? That stuff has to be in the original product thread, not in main discussion.

      Otherwise... What Alexa said.
