How Effective is the Online Version of the Newspaper

Would it be worth it to post up for an ad on the "online version" of the newspaper for 14 day? Price is about $30.00?

      It probably depends on what you're selling or trying to gain traffic for, though. Care to share a few more details?

      I was asked to do some general marketing from a client. (design flyers, print flyers, send a few emails to people in the Ft. Lauderdale area, post up a few ads on craigslist, and the newspaper. My client has a new website and wanted traffic (cleaning services).

      For what I'm getting paid, its not worth printing the ad in the newspaper. That is why I was asking about "Online Version" of the newspaper.

    It can work, but it depends on:

    * What you are selling;
    * The strength of your offer;
    * The effectiveness of your copy;
    * How well targeted your audience (location in this case);
    * The traffic to the page where your ad will be presented;
    * The strength of your call-to-action...

    There are many factors that can play a role in the effectiveness of this type of advertising.

    If you do everything well, it could be very profitable for your client.

    Even if you do a few things wrong, it could still be very profitable or totally ineffective.

      I agree. I tried marketing in a magazine and they gave me an option to advertise on the website as well. I didn't get nearly as much traffic from the site, but then again, I didn't split test my offer to see which converted the best. Ultimately you have to split test your offers to see how the people respond to it.

    Another consideration is that if you are being paid for traffic to the website, I would be more inclined to shoot for sales conversion rather than traffic to the website.

      Yeah, I was thinking of trying to get him contracts with apartment buildings instead of bringing traffic to his website, but I guess someone must have convinced the guy that he would get more business if he had a website. That's when he called me to promote it. I see this happen a lot.

        Maybe you need to have a sit-down with him and tell him what is up.

        People want online, because they see it as a means to an end, but when given the choice, I think more people will opt for the end over the means.
