Was anyone else nervous their first time?

I am kind of nervous right now, and am kind of looking for similar experiences. I am starting a niche site, and it is my first full time ebook gig. I played around with kindle before and made up to 150 a month. I am kind of nervous about Google indexing and crawling my site, about my product in general, and just in general. I plan on using my money (if it is any large amount) to maybe travel across Eastern Europe and maybe other places. I guess I have a bunch of emotions running through my mind at the current moment, and I don't know what to think. The potential for my niche seems huge with a little marketing and SEO. Have any of you ever felt nervous about IM?

I am kind of nervous because of the potential. It could mean a huge change in my life. For the first time in business I would have a major success I had control over. I don't wantto put the cart before the horse, but I think I have a great idea. The waiting though kind of is makingme nervous.

Forget about your future aspirations. You cannot, under any circumstances, make smart business decisions with your emotions.

The blood of business is money, and that money is generated through smart, logical decisions. When you get nervous because of a niche or new website or anything like that, you run the risk of putting too much pressure on that endeavour.

            Picture it like this:

You're in Starbucks one day, having a coffee and mooching on the free wifi. You're doing a little SEO analysis, checking your sites, and having an average morning.

You look up and in walks the most beautiful person you've ever seen. (I don't know if you're men or women, so I'm generalizing.) You know that his person is the perfect match for you, and you flash forward in your mind to the 6 month anniversary, the engagement, the kids, the grandkids, paying for college, new houses and cars and dogs and chinchillas...your entire life with this person.

Snap back to reality. You're now too scared to even approach the person and see if he or she has nice teeth or would even be interested in you. This costs you the opportunity because you didn't act with a calm, cool intellect; you acted with emotion, got worked up, and burned up the clutch in your engine.

Don't burn up the clutch on your engine. Just look at a site as a site and keep the logical side of your brain engaged.

Thanks man. You are right about that. I tend to obsesse about things down to the t. I need to step back and view this more objectively. I kind of obsess over it since there is not a lot to do in my town, so I kind of get caught up in it. And plus I just get caught up in general. Also, I kind of get caught up in the idea behind it, and not the actually business idea itself. To use a similar example, it is kind o flike how nike is not selling shoew, but the lifestyle behind it. I am excited about this idea and this forum in general. Thanks for the replies.

I have hobbies, it is just balancing time. I have school, I play games once in a while (been doing it more recently), reading, and buying and selling stocks (until recently, now I am waiting for a drop). Now I am kind of loking for a challenege. Unfortunately, there is not a lot besides school to challenge me. So now, since I don't have a job, I figured I give this a try. I have been studying IM and similar things for a while, but not until recently have I had a real urge to try my hand at it (with the exceception of a tad bit of kindle). But now I want to try and change my lifestyle, and the other day I came up with an idea for a sitw, it had little keyword competition, so I decided to try writing an ebook around it(I have experience with the subject keyword on a personal level). So I am pumped.

I've been working for others in the Internet Marketing arena for 10 1/2 years now, and just last month finally got up the nerve to break free and get out there on my own... and the one thing I can say with certainty, is that if you're not willing to fail, you're not gonna get very far. Which is what kept me chained to other already successful marketers so long.

So, don't be afraid to try, learn, and adapt. That goes for your marketing, to the types of business models that make your business profitable (or not)... be willing and flexible enough to TRY anything, and fail at it.

    That's my two-cents anyway!

My advice would be to get rid of any lofty expectations or playing the numbers game. That isn't to say not to have goals, but you need to be careful with 'unrealistic' expectations.

When I first started out I started thinking "oh this will make this amount" or "if this keeps up I'll make this every month". I think it's a huge mistake. Things change. Money comes and goes. Some months are great, some not as great. Try not to get too high or too low. Keep even with your emotions and hope for the best and prepare for the worst. Because if you get too "high" and this project doesn't work out, you will likely throw your hands up and give up. Don't do that.

I don't know what you are doing so I can't give you an opinion as to if I think it will be successful. Just work your ass off and the chips should fall into place

I posted this already, but basically I am selling a guide for 20 dollars, at least 40 pages (I am 1/4 done, and I already have 20 pages, so I might have more). I have a domain that matches up with two keywords that have 4,800 and 5,800 searches respectively, and another one with 1,000 searches respectively. The first keywords mostly return forum posts and yahoo answers. The topic is aspergers and I have intimate knowledge of it, and use my life experience to build a product that incorporate real life experiences and not just general data. These tips are derived from things I have donez that have helped me personally.

    vivo,
Yes it's nerve wracking for sure. I think that's only natural and is what makes you take it seriously. But if you are nervous that your product isn't good enough you should test it out first. Look for online Aspergers communities and offer your book for free. Aspergers is a complex mental disorder and anyone who has it knows that there is no easy fix. There is certainly no cure for it. Your website needs a lot of work. Good luck.

Sure. I need to finish the draft of the book. But I would not min din the least. Any thoughts on the site? I am not so much worried about my product, but getting the product out there. Seo, article writing, etc. Btw, is one thing that needs to be worked on the positioning of the text? Or is it the text? Could you offer some general advice on the site?

Your anxiousness is natural. I have felt that feeling many times and found the best way to get beyond it is to "just do it." Even things have not worked out as I planned or desired, I learned from the experience and improved. Just keep putting out new products and learn from the things that work and the things that don't.

I just popped my head into this thread and checked out your site.

I must applaud you for hand-coding your first site. I'm still using wordpress for all of mine.

Thanks for the compliment. I did most of the coding myself, but due to some glitches with my host, it is kind of easier to use the wysiwyg editor. And that is why it might look at tad weird in terms of formatting. The major problem seeks to be with css. Otherwise, I would format it to fit all screens the same. But for now, I think I found the next best thing.

Even more nervewracking-- your first sale/conversion.

I qm not so worried about that. I am kind of worried about my exposure. I know as long as people can fimd my site they will buy my product. Not trying to brag, but I genuinely believe that. Could be wrong.

But on that note, I know how you feel. When I was doing more kindle products, I put a ton of time into it, and nothing happened. So I lefted it be and called it a loss. Then a few months latter, I started getting checks. Boy, what a turn of events.
