I've been desperately looking for keywords with low competition and that produces decent traffic (about 1,000-5,000 global monthly searches).I am not having any luck so far finding a niche that can produce profitable keywords. Are there any other profitable niches out there besides weight loss and like dieting!?

Please Help

If you are just running after money and has no interest or passion, I say don't go for it. Try something else.

No. Only weight loss and dieting are profitable. I'm kidding.

Do some work. Use the Google Keyword tool to find a niche you like an has the monthly searches you want. Invest a few hours. No offense, but we are here to help, not do the work for you.

Keywords aren't niches. They're keywords. You're doing it wrong. If you are hoping to base your business off of a Google search number instead of a problem that needs solving you are going to fail fast and fail often. Don't believe me? Just check the SEO section after an algorithm update. There is actually some hooplah still going on now because of the EMD updates.

You are right. Keywords are not niches. What I meant to say (and didn't) was to use the keyword tool to find out the number of searches and the competition. You were right. I was wrong. Now, would someone please just love me?

First of all go where the money is - health, wealth, relationships.

Secondly, look for low "tittle" or allinurl competition

Third, don't worry so much about competition. These days there's a lot of targeted traffic on social sites like Facebook or Linkedin. Having an authoritative voice matters more than than keyword competition.

Go search FB groups or fan pages for those with say 10,000+ members. See what people are passionate about. Where people are passionate they send $$.

    Good luck

There are many evergreen niches that have potential like self development, internet marketing, online business, fitness, however you have to put in simple put in the work for looking for potential low search keywords.

You could use places like clickbank for niche ideas and then if you find a site you like copy their website url and paste it into a keyword tool like Google (in the website section). You will then see what keywords that site is attracting . Use those keywords to drill down even further for more keywords.

Finding good to great keywords is what keyword research is all about. We all have to do it no matter what niche to are in.

That's decent advice. Still, Google's Keyword Tool tends to suggest a lot of very broad terms. Let's say they tell you "Dating Advice." What article would you write to try and target a generic phrase like that?

I know this is old thread but maybe someone running across it will see my answer to the above question for a broad term as "Dating Advice" would be a pillar article that would target Dating Advice with as many of the secondary keywords such at Dating Advice for Females, Dating Advice for Males, Dating Advice for Teens on and on and on until you don't have anymore of those keywords.

Make that pillar article no less than 2,000 words find 3 of these broad terms with high search volume in the same niche and write 3 pillar articles and then all your other secondary words can be single 300 to 500 word articles.

Authority is where its at and you have to show google you know more about the subject than anyone else.

So what do just about all these 'niches' have in common?

They all revolve around people looking for a solution to some sort of problem.

Which means if you can find ANY market or niche where there are desperate buyers looking for solutions to problems, then you will have found a pot of gold.

I've done sites both ways. Looking for words to build a site around and then creating sites I truly love because they are things that make a difference to me.

The sites I had built around keywords were pure drudgery and just took the wind right out of my sails. But I listened to the people who were saying that it was important to not get all involved with your site or the market but that it was more important to diversify,

But for me, it turned out to be far more rewarding, personally and financially, to choose with something I truly cared about and stick with that to make it large and diversified, and when I did that, I had no trouble finding keywords or products or people.

This exactly. The words "Pure drudgery" doesn't even touch how unpleasant building a site around something I didn't care about was for me.

I believe that there is a market for everything. EVERYTHING if its something YOU love, you can bet there are lots of others who share that love.

If a keyword had 5000+ monthly searches, then chances are that competition won't be too little. May or may not be fierce but don't expect zero competition.

Looking at that list, I can tell some vendors have no idea how to do market research.

Like the man boobs niche, unless they're recommending surgeons, there is no other cure for man boobs. This has been beaten to death on various bodybuilding forums all over the net... but people still need to release products that claim otherwise.

And no I never had man boobs. I just know a lot about nutrition/bodybuilding. Once that tissue solidifies, its never leaving without a knife. Actually, let me go check out that product I'm dying to see what their claim is...

edit: Just read the salespage. Its a total sham. See this is why so many marketers don't make money. Never enter a niche you don't know a thing about. Many folks on here say "you don't need to know about a niche, you just need to be a good salesman and do your market research".

To me, thats horrible advice. I'm not going to explain why, but lets just say that some people research niches for their whole life. Even small niches. If you're entering ANY niche, yes you better be a good salesman. But furthermore, you better know that niche and know it damn well imo. Like that salespage is promoting a natural compound that balances your hormones, and gets rid of your boobs. Well guess what? We have nonnatural compounds (like nolvadex) that balance your hormones in DAYS, and STILL don't get rid of the man boobs.

So a natural compound sure as hell isn't doing anything. I'll bet my entire savings account on it. If you are to learn anything from this, don't enter the man boob niche. You're destined for failure from day 1.

      Great points man!

      Taken one step further...

Say someone knew all of this info, knew the product was a sham, but chose to market it anyway because they see money in it.

And let's say they did make money marketing the sham product...

At the end of the day, how will it feel to know that you are dipping into people's pockets, wasting their money with something that is bogus?

I know some will not care, and instead add pride points to their sales ability...

But there is nothing like promoting or creating a GOOD product which you can stand behind because you KNOW it is adding value into someone's life.

There is something about the desire to earn money through actually helping people, and not ripping them off.

Pretty simple really when you come to the realization that a "niche" is nothing more than a way that a group of people describe a problem or desire they have online.

For example (and this is a good one...shouldn't be giving it away :-) - Appetite Suppression gets nearly 100,000 searches monthly, appears as the target for many products online (meaning you have something to sell that you KNOW is selling) and has low competition (at least it did until I wrote this).

I hope you understand what I'm saying - look at what products are hot, what is the way people are marketing and/or searching for those products and you will have your niche.

The one thing that I would do if I were you is to go to Clickbank's marketplace and start playing with all the Categories section and start browsing through each of them. You will be surprised to see how many products are being sold in niches that you never heard of before.

    Just go to:

Marketplace - ClickBank and then click on Categories.

I am sure that there are many people here in the forum and online who sell this info and share some great "secret" niches that no one knows about but the above strategy will work for you if you take the time to "explore".

You can't possible know if a keyword is profitable until you actually test it (or if someone else shares their testing results with you, which I don't see happening).

Remember, niches are simply needs and wants. So you're surrounded by both niches and markets. People make money online selling all kinds of things. Some marketers don't sell anything and only make money doing arbitrage.

You have numerous possibilities online, but it’s better to start with a popular niche.

Internet marketing is one of the best niches because you find cooperation. In other fields nobody accepts promoting your products because they have their own products. Internet marketers are not loyal to any product. They prefer to make money with commissions than merely promoting their own products.

Look for what is in demand. For example, getting traffic is something that interests internet marketers and business owners.

Don’t get into complicated niches that depend on special knowledge.

Maybe there is a good smaller sub-niche that you can find. Write down on a list 20 things you love to do and go from there

Best advice I can give you is.....don't find a niche for a silly 5 page website with a ton of backlinks that google will knock out 3 months later.

Build a good authority site on something YOU know allot about, a passion, a hobby anything!

There is no possible way your going to be able to run a good quality website that is going to get ranked high on Google on a subject you know nothing about.

The main key that will get you ranked on Google is good quality content....now there is noway you can write good quality content on something you know sod all about

i have a bit of a different take and i do believe keywords are in fact niches.

    try this...

go to the adwords tool without any pre concieved idea or notion of what you are going to promote...

then use a non biased trigger word like the word "won't" or "can't" or "ways to" and see what comes up...

i guarantee every time you use one of these trigger words you will come up with something really good to use...

i just tried how long and got "how long to boil lobster"

    i like this niche...

or even "how to do long division"

these niches... despite what the other marketers say... do have some killer profit potential.

never buy into the whole "non buyer niche = no money" lie.

think about people who are non buyers... people who watch american idol, people who watch recipe shows, ect.

there is a lot of money in non buyer niches my friends... not to mention the killer list potential.

Look for new hot products in Google news , its so easy:

      Example:
      go to news.google.com

Assume I am looking for the latest product of video games , then I will type in the search box the following:

      "announced" video game

Or if I am looking for weight loss latest products , then I will type :
      "announced" weight loss

      and so on ..

There are a lot of niche that you could dwell into, the basic question is where do you fit comfortably and where you are an authority so to speak.

Let us set the rules when looking for a profitable niche, what would be searchable this month may not be searchable the following month. So if you are just looking for that specific word or key words, you might end up frustrated. Try to be an expert in your chosen field and write quality content that entices your readers to come for more. Never live for the moment.

I'd say you have at least 2 options: either find a niche that you can be passionate about (because there are more chances for you to be successful if you do something out of passion) or choose a niche selling products that people are always interested in like cosmetics, natural remedies, construction, jewellery and clothes, and so on. Hope this helps.

Misconception: That all of the good niches are already taken, are saturated and that there is too much competition and no more room left for them.

There are tons of niche ideas that can turn into successful online businesses, even within saturated markets. You don't have to come up with something totally new, something that has never been done before, in order to succeed. Start with something thats already working, and make it better.

Finding a profitable niche actually is quite easy, and does not have to take a lot of time.

Here is one simple trick to find thousands of profitable niches in a matter of minutes.

    1. Head to magazines.com
    2. Next search for the most popular magazines

Now each one of these magazines is a profitable niche. People spend big bucks in looking to see what the public would want to buy. If these magazines were not selling -- they would not put tons of money into advertising them.

Now, just go through each magazine and have a look at what interest you. When you look at the headlines, titles, and highlighted parts of the magazine to drill down into your niche.

    For example ..
    Niche "Men's Fitness"
Sub Niche "How To Get A Six Pack For Men Over 40"

Saying you can't find a niche is like saying you can't find your keys.

You need to take a step back from what you're currently doing and take a different approach.

Just thinking about stuff you use and/or buy on a daily basis could probably build a list of 10 niches right there.

Weight loss and dieting are more markets rather than niches.

To talk from my own experience, finding a niche sounds difficult but once you get your head around it, it becomes simpler.

The 4 main markets where you can find a 'niche' are:

      1. Wealth - Make Money
      2. Health - Weight loss etc
      3. Relationships - dating etc
      4. Hobbies/sports- golf etc

Pick a market say for example 'health' then dig deeper into this market for example:

      Weight loss
      weight loss for men
      weight loss for women
      How to lose belly fat
      Burn fat fast

      etc ....

another thing to do is pop into your local newsagents or even go online and find magazines that cover the health market and you caan find niches through those magazines.

The main thing is to find a niche that has problems, for example 'acne' is a common health problem so you know people will be looking for a solution to their acne problem.

I use keywords just to give me an idea, i simply type in weight loss in keyword planner, and then i see what it brings up, i dont even look at search volume at this time as i am just searching for a niche.

so from keyword planner if it gives me results such as 'burn fat fast' that becomes a niche, same goes for 'burn belly fat'that becomes a niche. if you look at health magazines there are headlines on the front of them that say exactly that, 'burn fat fast', etc

it's a problem because people like me i love to eat to much cake now and again and i tend to have a belly for that, and my wife tends to remind me of it lol ... so i do require a solution and for me it's 'burning off that belly fat' through work out exercises ( yes i brought p90x) even dieting works for me etc etc.

this is just to give you an idea what i do and how i go about finding niches.

Hope it's shed some light and helps you out.

Otherwise clickbank has a complete category of markets and niches so much easier.

If you have trouble finding something you like that is profitable, what i would suggest is to compile a list of profitable niches that you can find on the internet.

After you have a good number of options (say about 10 - 15 topics), sit down and rank them into a list of top 5 that would interest you.

From this remaining 5, do in-depth research on the current products on the market, current authorities and trends of each niche. By then, you should have a good idea of what you would want to go for.

For me, doing it this way ensures that the niche is most importantly profitable (we are doing this for cash after all) but also interesting for you.

If you're just beginning your online business and still figuring out what niche to be in, I would suggest IM/MMO niche to be your first niche regardless of your passion because you would need to learn about IM first before you can succeed online. There are many available IM tools and resources including this forum that you can learn from.

From my experience, once you know what it takes to succeed selling online, then moving on to another niche based on your passion would be less overwhelming and frustrating as you make your way to making money in that niche.

Stop focusing on keywords. You are looking at one metric and one that doesn't even tell you much.

There is at least 6 criteria you should qualify to gain the best chance of success when you are selecting your niche.

The size is important, though the level of competition, profitability and growth potential are all other factors.

There are many guides for finding a profitable niche, I would strongly suggest following a detailed one.

The root issue is, we need people that have needs, and we need people who are willing to spend money. The easiest way for us to look at this. In fact, I want to give you an offline example:

I want you to imagine that you're thinking about opening up a restaurant in your town. The first place that you would go to find out if maybe you needed a new restaurant in your town is to look and see what's happening with the restaurant scene. Are people filling up the seats in at least some of the restaurants downtown? Now, if some of the restaurants are empty, and some of them are full, that doesn't tell you that there's no more hungry people.

If some of the restaurants are full, it tells you the food's probably bad in those empty restaurants. But, if there's a number of restaurants that are full, it probably indicates that there's a demand for good food in your town.

    That's the first step.

Okay, some restaurants are full, so there must be a demand. There are hungry people. You sit outside with the binoculars and you watch how many people are coming around. You sit outside, you're downtown, you set up 100 yards away, 50 yards away, you set up your binoculars, or telescope, and you watch in 10 restaurants, and you just count how many people go into each restaurant. At the end of an hour you know 970 people have gone into those combined 10 restaurants. There are 970 hungry people on Friday night between 6 and 7. This is a fact! We know this now. We know that there's that many hungry people, and there's 10 restaurants. If you open a restaurant, and yours is as good as everybody else's, you've got a shot at generating 1/11th of all of that business. You know this.
