Hi,

I am curious to know about working of SMTP relay servers like jangosmtp or serversmtp .

1) How these relay server get delivery report?
2) What is installed on their server to manage emails and bounce emails?
3) Any recommended tool or software which can work like such relay servers?

Thanks

To handle bumps, etc.... That is an email standard. There is NO standard for determining if they have opened the email. That is usually done via a one pixel image.

You see, email doesn't really use the internet per se. By that, I mean that it would be very unlikely for you to be able to send me an email. OH, you can try! I WILL get the email! But it works like a relay race. Each system passes it off to the next which continues to relay it. So you are REALLY only sending it to one system, and asking for it to be passed along.

THAT is why spammers have so many problems, and often look for open RELAYS. An open relay is simply a mail server, that thus RELAYS, that doesn't check the sender. a closed relay will only accept emails from specific systems.

Anyway, the SMTP tells you a LOT about HOW they do things and how they are limited.

In the prevous message, I spoke of a "mail server". Basically, if you want to send mail, you HAVE to have an email server. Webhosts might let you use THEIRS for a relay, and ISPs may still let their customers use theirs, but you email ALWAYS goes to the same place wth an email client. That email server. It is the FIRST step in the relay race. Whether you setup outlook, or some other email client they ask for the SMTP HOST,POP HOST, or something similar, and that is that email server.

Microsoft was losing out, so they created their OWN email server, called the EXCHANGE server. hMailserver is a free version of an email server for windows.
