Do I need a UK Hosting company?

Hi

I am currently using Hostgator to host my sites. They are all .com / .org etc. They have been really good to deal with.

However, I have recently created a couple of .co.uk sites - I live in the UK.

My question is this, do I really need a UK-based hosting company to host these UK sites? And, if so, could anyone please recommend a really good one?

I have been looking through the various reviews online and, to be honest, my head is fried!

Many thanks,

Arny

If you want to rank as well as possible on google.co.uk searches, yes, probably.

I decided I did, anyway, for mine. See what yellow-boy Cutts, from Google, says below (only a 90-second clip).

Yes. After endless research and investigation I went to Heart Internet (and recommend them, in my 4th year of hosting there, now), and I've seen other Warriors recommend them, too. Not the cheapest but very good customer service. Reseller Hosting, Web Hosting, VPS & Dedicated Servers | Heart Internet

He didn't mention geographic targeting in Google's Webmaster Tools (though it is probably in another video of his). In Webmaster Tools, your simply tell Google if you want to target users in a particular country and, based on my personal experience, it works very well indeed: I have sites hosted in Utah that rank in Ireland, and sites hosted in Germany that rank in the US.

        I hear you, Thomas.

I interpret what he's saying above as meaning that hosting in the "right country" is better than just doing that in Webmaster Tools.

Location of host also affect ranking so it is better if you use any hosting service established in The United Kingdom.

YES. If you have a budget. Theoretically people may say NO. But just go with hosting in an UK company.

I personally did it and ranked #1 page for couple of .co.uk sites one of which i flipped later..

It can even be an average hosting company, but this gives an edge, which makes sense to everyone that a .co.uk name hosted in UK

Yes more then likely it will be a better idea to host your uk sites, in the uk. As this will decrease latency for your views and may also help with the local rankings.
