My sales have been on the rise but I have some seasonal sites that are starting to pick up.

As for SEO, I believe Google is heading for a "Google approved author" search engine. If you want to rank in Google search you will have to be approved. Similar to what they have done with Adwords.

That's why so many Blogger sites are now in the SRPs.

        But I'm no SEO expert.

Until I read this post from you, I always thought the little picture appearing next to content I have published in SERP was coming from the site it was published on, I just realized its not, Google have picked me up as an author and extract it from my Google+ profile. Very cool.

Thanks for making me realize this!

Are you referring to sales in general or sales that have SEO involved? Since the recent updates I can say SEO services have slowed down some for me and I would imagine anyone who was hit recently by the EMD update would have notice a drop if their main traffic source is Google.

SEO is soon going to be die...Accept it or not...

The more Google refines its algorithm the lesser the SEO works.

IMO SEO (backlinking and other tricks) are exploiting Google vulnerabilities.

SEM and SMO are going to be the game,,

Not entirely, but backlinking is going to take a big hit, just look at the facts:

Links from article submissions - Gone
Links from PR sites - Gone
Links from blog commenting - Gone
Links from forum signatures - Gone
Links in page footers - Gone

I don't think backlinking service providers have much left in their toolkit.

Actually none of these have "gone" and still work if you know how to use them. The trick nowadays is to rank without having to RELY on this sort of backlinking. What you need is natural backlinks from real people. That's the way respected SEO companies have always done it and the ONLY method that is Panda, Penguin, EMD, and any other update proof for sure. If you try it any other way and your business suffers then don't complain when your sales eventually drop.

Henry, my physical product sales took a big dump this last 2 weeks, noticeably so.

As for SEO I agree there will always be a way to game the algorithms.
Right now social links seem to still work, and youtube views comments etc...

The problem with google's stupid algorithms and their whole approach to ranking web sites is that all their methods have major faults:
    1) ranking based on backlinks - certain products/ services just never will get a lot of natural backlinks so to base ranking on that is wrong
    2) ranking based on social signals - same as #1
    3) ranking based on popularity - this punishes new sites, can be gamed, and doesn't work unless you also rank based on category (ie; a category of "screen doors" is never going to get as many visitors as a site about "Pit bulls", so to compare them is not fair - you can't really rank a screen door site based on # of visitors, # of social bookmarks nor # of natural backlinks - it's just not reasonable

So google's whole concept of ranking needs a major overhaul to account for different types of businesses. Personally I think their idea "content is king" is best because it should be more about providing good content. Even a screen door site can provide good content about screen doors. However google is looking for the easy way out - algorithms (non-human methods of ranking) and that's just never going to be fair or work well.

Thus there will always be gaming the system due to the necessity of counter-balancing google's stupid methods of ranking.

And by the way, if you look at google's post-penguin search engine results carefully it is VERY clear that "content" is NOT king. Not at all!

Wrong, Google now employs a team of people to manually check and rate the quality of sites. This rating directly affects SERP, and therefore traffic. It's called the Google Quality Rating program.

You sell SEO services, how come you don't know about this stuff?

Mac, there is no way in hell Google can manually go through every site on the web. Yes, they do use a manual team and have done for a long time, but rankings will always be primarily determined by algorithms. The manual team is there to catch out people who are blatantly gaming the system.

But yes... all in all, Google are making a pretty solid effort to get rid of SEO. It just makes sense. All those dollars businesses spend on SEO are dollars they won't be spending on Adwords. We SEO people are really competing with Google, like it or not. Google has never been particularly scrupulous when it comes to wiping out competition.

Yes, of course they can't check every site manually, but they are checking.

Reducing the effect of SEO is actually quite a good idea in my opinion. I have always thought that companies selling SEO services were not acting morally. They know they are selling a service aimed at gaming the system, which cannot be guaranteed to remain effective once paid for by the client.

Unfortunately, there are too many site owners around who think they can throw $50 at some self professed SEO guru and hit the big time, instead of investing proper effort in to build tangible, long-term success.

Sorry to spoil the doom and gloom but actually MY SALES ARE UP! With all the confusion surrounding SEO more people are asking me to fix their "SEO" problems. A lot of people have lost their sites' rankings because of less than ideal SEO practices performed by inexperienced SEO wannabes. Now things have levelled up it's interesting and profitable times ahead
With every man and his dog doing "SEO" the industry couldn't have sustained it. Google have responded in the correct way.

This is just a part. All of we in this field need to face this type of situation today or tomorrow. Try to find out the reason of drop sales. If you find it out then you better know what you actually need to do.

Sales for physical products are holding on average, estimated to be 100G annually.

    Adsense $600-800 monthly

Things seem ok, but for me, take a dip in the winter months do to competing priorities of the market I serve.

Strangely, I had 11 sales today. Since the EMD update, traffic decreased by around 50% and sales were even poor before that, averaging about 2/day.

I think eventually Google will eliminate all free organic search traffic, and all results appearing on the first page will be paid results.

Actually, my sales have picked up to an all time high as of late in both of the services I provide.

Not only in sales alone, but in higher quality businesses that are hiring me. I have never tried to game any algorithms ever, though. Maybe that is the reason, maybe not, but either way, I couldn't be happier.

There are a combination of factors.

        1. The economy in general is a mess and has been a mess for a while.

        2. Google is seriously cracking down on the tactics that "used" to get your site
ranked highly. Some stuff just doesn't work anymore.

But like Bill said (how are you my friend?) if you don't know WHY your sales are
down, how can you possibly figure out how to fix it.

Do you track your traffic daily? Do you know where it came from when things
were good and how much it's dropped off since? What's not working for you
        anymore?

I have no problem answering that question (and yes, sales are slower for me)
because I know exactly where the hits have come from. I can then go about
fixing the problem, which I am in the process of doing.

Some of it's going to be out of my control (the bad economy) but a lot of it
        is within my control.

You can't fix what's broken if you don't know WHY it's broken.

    dont blame the economy.

Our niches are doing even better right now than a year ago. Yes, increase in sales as I spent alot of time researching and making sure it had supply and demand in times of economic hardship.

I actually think a bad economy is good!

WHY? advertising rates in some places go down, so cheaper to advertise to more people.

People still have money....yes no matter what the idiots on CNBC and news tell you.

Supply and demand are just changing, but like I said, do some research and put yourself as the leader in areas were demand are.

So do not blame the economy, or whine, at the end of the day it will not make your feel better, and its definatly not gunna help you increase sales and commissions. Lots of money out there, just have to do some research to get it to you.

    Good luck.

I have seen increase in sales, most of it is from my Social Media Following. I also get a fair amount of new clients from Google Adwords, so my sales and traffic depends on how often I keep my ads running.
