Would this be as good as or better than Aweber?

INTERNET MARKETING

I am thinking about buying a self-hosted autoresponder such as ARP Reach and integrating it with sendgrid, smtp, or amazon ses.

Would this be the best of both worlds? Having a self-hosted list and all the control it offers, but none of the headaches of keeping up to date with deliverability issues as that would be handled by sendgrid, etc.

Thanks for any insight you may offer!

i have bought my own software combined with sendgrid.
Did some testing and the open rates are about the same.

It's actually better than the best of both worlds, as you're not stuck with just one SMTP provider and can swap them in and out and even split-test them against each other to drive up your delivery.
