I'm Almost Ready to Give Up - But I Just Can't

Hey Everyone,
I've been doing IM for about a year now, and been trying to make money online for about 5 (about 5 years ago fell for all the survey scams, then about 2 years ago fell for Adam Horwitz's Mobile Overnight Riches and over the last year really started to get into it).

Now, what I've tried doing?

Started with Push button Overnight Riches Systems - Made Nothing
Balance - $-750

Started With Affiliate Marketing - Finally Made $16 After Two Months, however I'd already moved onto something else
Balance - $-734

Purchased a Mobile Website WSO in January from WillR, tried outsourcing - Made Nothing, got scammed by oDesk telemarketers
Balance - $-2,900

Had the idea of a Website Builder with an Open SDK for widgets and a marketplace and a whole bunch of other features - Lost the motivation from being talked down by parents and others, as well as lack of programming knowledge and outsourcing costs ($30,000+).
Balance - $-3,000 (Lynda.com Membership trying to learn PHP)

Moved on to AdSense Just Before Penguin Hit - Nothing, Sites were all wiped out before I could even rank them. Google then came out with another update which was against EMD's
Balance - $-3,500 ( Websites and Hosting, A couple articles, and some basic SEO + WSO's on SEO ).

Moved on to the idea of a Website that would allow you to Upload Pictures and Videos as the background, similar to iGoogle with pictures, and then share them with the community. Website would look just like google, with my logo and control panel, and searches would collect results from Google and Ads placed would be my AdSense ads. Was talked down yet again by parents due to iGoogle already doing something like this, and having a better community.

Now? I'm stuck and lost, just as I always am when I have nothing to work towards. School isn't the answer, I work for the Straight A's that I get, however nothing School can provide for me (no career paths) seem to be anything that would make me happy. I want to be an Internet Entrepreneur, and if I am not working on something online I feel unproductive and I just get back on the computer and start thinking.

I need to make a choice..

AdSense again?
Affiliate Marketing?
Try and Think of another 'Great Idea'?

I've been told AdSense sites are dead, and Google is unstable on how they handle you (possibility of being banned randomly in some situations), and was told that affiliate marketing is too overcrowded now.

I just don't know what to do and need some guidance if anyone could possibly please point me in the right direction.

Thanks!
Dylan

EDIT: What a great 100th post. Depressing it's been this long and I've made no progress.

    Hi Dylan,

Don't worry mate, you'll get there eventually :-)

AdSense isn't dead by any means, but I wouldn't recommend going after it at this point in time. Building your business around Google and SEO in any way is inadvisable, you'll never be stable that way.

Out of the list of things you've tried, creating mobile websites for offline businesses (or offering any other in demand offline services for that matter) is the safest bet, and it's not that hard to get going in and making good money quickly with a little persistence. Granted you ran into a little trouble the first time around but don't let that stop you - you're likely to face some degree of adversity whatever you do, you just have to carry on through it and learn from your experiences.

Hope that helps :-) If you have any more questions please don't hesitate to ask.

Thanks for the reply. I'm not too sure about the mobile market anymore, it seems everyone is bandwagoning to it now (just in time because businesses are finally starting to understand they need this. When I contacted them they said they didn't need it or couldn't afford it).

Not sure if this will help you at all, but I heard that Google is shutting down iGoogle in about a year (which I'm pretty bummed about because I use it all the time)

My friend, whatever kind of service you attempt to offer businesses a large majority of them will say no. The key to selling is to see every "no" as a positive step along the way to getting a "yes".

You need thick skin for sure to succeed in most any kind of business.

When I was doing the Mobile Website Optimization I was trying to build a business out of it. I had a website, and had my telemarketers, Facebook page, twitter account, however I got scammed by the telemarketers and kind of moved on to something else.

Other than that I was considering building an Honest WSO Review website and building a list of that, and providing affiliate links only to ones I recommend, however I no longer have the capital to buy all the WSO's, and many are doing that already. I'm not sure if building a large website is the way to go for me because it seems every niche large enough already has 1,000 competitors.

Sorry to sound harsh, but this is one of those "fool me once" type of situations. Dude, use your brain don't you see a pattern here. You think you are going to buy a "system" or an "idea" that's going to make you money.

What makes you think you need to buy a product? Stop investing in other peoples ideas invest in your own. The point of these ebooks or what not is to pool ideas from them and integrate them into your own strategies, not to let someone else do the hard thinking for you.

Making money online is hard you know why? Because it's worth doing. If it wasn't so damn hard the satisfaction wouldn't be so sweet. It's like the nectar of that forbidden fruit that dangles in front of the populace where they can only dream of being lathered in self made riches.

Be your own man, find your own path. Stop listening to your parents, stop listening to Adam Horowitz whoever that is, stop believing what you hear. The only thing you are doing right, is that you keep failing. And failure is the first step to success.

You are playing the victim, "my situation sucks the world has failed me". Nothing is given, it's earned. Your own system for making money that you develop will be your own not a "push button" solution. It will be one that you have because you stopped listening to others and grabbed yourself by the balls, slapped 'em on the table till they clanked like hard steel, drank a neat glass of Whiskey, and said #@$!% YOU WORLD this is my reality so get out of the way.

I'm not trying to just follow what WSO's say etc and just rely on them and buy into their products, I'm trying to use them for ideas as you have suggested. I know I shouldn't listen to my parents but I have clinical depression and refuse to take the pills that they try and prescribe me so I am easy to get down. I'm just trying to find a path that needs clearing, so that I can clear it.

      Thanks for the reply.

Let me tell you something Blinking I have dealt with clinical depression on and off for the past 5 years and came very close to the point of no return if you understand what I'm saying. I'd walk around like a zombie for days at a time feeling like I was in absolute hell and the worst part is I couldn't explain why. This year alone I've lost a multi-year relationship, and my sister in law who died at the old age of 22.

This past year I worked tirelessly on my site. Thousands of hours and didn't see a single dime. My parents practically begged me to get a "real job," and my friends thought I was just playing with myself in front of the computer.

I am finally seeing the fruit of my labors, and boy it feels good.

The problem is your attitude. Just read your post. Don't you see it? You have a self-defeating attitude, you have the perspective that "all these things have happened to me". You need to change that perspective. Accept every bad thing that happens to you, EMBRACE IT. This includes all your sites getting tanked by Google. Accept the bad, the failures as though you CHOSE IT to be that way.

You are not going to succeed in IM until you can change your perspective and your attitude on yourself and the world. I take medication, and it was probably one of the best decisions I have ever made in my life. I hate the idea of taking a pill don't get me wrong, but the alternative is worse. Man up, take responsibility for your life, and refuse to be a statistic.

You are just as strong as the Hulk, it's inside of you, the problem is you fail to recognize it. You are failing to cultivate it.

Hi blinking, like you i am trying all different strategies and hoping i'll make a score. You'll have to believe that people can make money online however the fact is it's not easy. I was making $200/month with my network of adsense websites and the panda and penguin update killed everything. If SEO isn't the answer, you might want to dwelve into Cost Per Action (cpa offers, though i haven't made a dime yet but i know for fact that there is money to be made). I'm learning to generate paid traffic, learning to build lander, collect e-mails and promoting affiliate offers. I believe this might be the direction you'd want to take. Promoting offers directly would make you a short term commissions however building a list would enable you to build a business where you could quadruple your profit. Paid traffic sources may not be reliable few years on, one product may not have the same room next year ultimately having a list will help you promote any product offers for years to come and write your own cheque at will! I hope my 2 cents would help you to reconsider to not to quit and have a firm/faith and believe that "there is money to be made out there and success will come with persistence"! Good Luck!

Don't give up! The victory will be even sweeter when it arrives due to the mishaps of the past.

I've only made 240 usd in my IM career so far but I'm 3 weeks in. Made it all on Kindle and didnt spend a dime, maybe you should look into options with little or no investment for awhile? Because it seems you have been burned multiple times!

Keep the chin up, you should be proud of your determination and attitude!

Affiliate marketing isn't overcrowded...as long as there are niches to pick up then you can succeed there. It's just a matter of staying on top of research and spotting trends. There are tools that can help you do that. AM is a good place to start. Get yourself into a really good niche or two and go from there. It might sound simple (it is) but AM has been tried and true even before the internet existed. I forget where it is, but do a search for Tiffany Dow's affiliate marketing kindle plan. She is awesome and has written yet another great guide. I think it is still free to download.

I understand clinical depression...it's easy for people to get you down and for you to get yourself down. People with depression have to push harder. But it's totally possible to succeed in IM if you have depression. The key is to be patient with yourself while being persistent. That doesn't mean you won't have bad days when you don't even feel like booting your laptop. But that does mean maintaining an attitude of "I will do this no matter how long it takes, no matter what hurdles I have to overcome." Good luck

I'd pick one niche and build a business from it. Just concentrate on the one until you see profit, and leave the MMO niche well alone.

    Hi Blinking,

    Your experience isn't unique.

Most/all aspiring online marketers go through a stage of being unable to FOCUS on SPECIALISING in ONE area of online business.

As you have found, GENERALISING doesn't return much money.

Everywhere you look in business, it's the super specialists who get the big bucks.

It's the neurosurgeon that gets a massive salary, not my aunt who once read a first aid manual about a cut on the head (you get the idea).

You must discipline yourself (get off virtually all IM lists for starters) to FOCUS on one specific sub-niche area and get really really good at it.

Once you can do that, it's incredible how quickly you can turn your efforts around.

You'll never know how much people have worse experience than you. What you need to do is stop for a while and find a meaning in your life. What do you expect 10 years from now.
Idea comes naturally when you have that much experience. Give up will only lead to regret.

Make your own product!! Make it special!! Make it look cool!! Sell it to someone.

It's just as easy as this. You don't need a huge investment. Use the good old chat promotion for example or talk about it in forums related to your product.

Why would you want to let a possible customer get away with one adsense click which earns you 2$, if you could get 20$+ out of him?

Don't believe this inspirational bullshit.. just act like a normal salesman would also do.

1# quit Warrior Forum for at least one day
2# think about a product you could sell during this day and also keep in mind that you might want it in an area where a lot of people buy might buy this product frequently
3# Do it with ZERO INVESTMENT... start with a digital product and code/write/design it yourself.
4# IF you suck at promotion.. JV with someone.. 70% of 10$ are still better that 100% of nothing or 100% of an adsense click..

    best wishes,
    harvey

A lot of great advice blinking.
I got wiped out too. Guess what ... I am adapting to a new business idea and going forward.
When things change on the Internet I am going to change with it again and again and again.

Be fluid.. there is no "one way" therea re many many ways.. glad you have been trying them.

Warrior Forum is the BEST place to be and learn stuff. For FREE my friend.
Stop right now spending money (except for a domain or an article etc) no more 3,000 spendings.

Think.. imagine.. where the Internet will be in 1 year.. 2 years ..
80% mobile.. semi-transparent background graphics.. new graphic format .. Youtube superseded Google or Google merges G+, Search and Youtube into one site..

Think about what it will soon be like, plan what people need ..
Home control will be big .. get there before everyone else.. working online will be HUGE do stuff in that direction ..

Read the WSOs like I do .. soak the knowledge .. put it in your bank in your head to cash later when you are working on a project ..

Think of getting social love into your current, next, upcoming projects.. how can you make your stuff engaging ? That is how to rank and get traffic now...

Oh I have rambled again sorry .. I have some good ideas I have to go write down and work on ..

Yes there is immense possibilities in IM if you want to make money. But you are lacking in one of the most important aspect which every IMer should have i.e patience. From your thread it is quite clear that you had some success with affiliate marketing(Finally Made $16 After Two Months, however I'd already moved onto something else).

You are not sticking to any model for long enough to see the success. You need to change this attitude soon. Else you will not make a dime, for sure!

Really appreciate your response and you taking this personally. I definitely see what you mean, and am definitely taking it a lot more seriously now. I am sick of feeling sorry for myself, I've been stuck in that vicious circle for about a month now, and I think you just pushed me out of it with that. I've decided to go back to where I first saw success in Affiliate Marketing and Articles, and I am going to stick with it until I see profits whether it is tomorrow or next year.
My parents are constantly nagging me about getting a job as well, however they don't seem to understand the IM perspective, or at least the way I view it. I'll either be a successful Internet Marketer, or an unsuccessful one (and if it's the ladder I'll work to achieve the former). Again thanks for the post, really appreciate it.

Read above post, I'm moving back to Affiliate marketing. That was about a year ago, and I agree, I had little to no patience. Really appreciate everyones responses.

The MMO niche can be pretty unpredictable. I think from your experience what happened is you invested too much money too fast. Have you tried starting with little? Create a website, outsource info-product creation on Fiverr or write it yourself, sell your product on CB, market it on the web, then rinse and repeat.

If you will generate profits off of it, repeat the entire process but this time diversify, you can do it for like 2-3 digital product. This way you will not feel so much of a loss if the business does not perform well or turn out to be successful. Hope this helps!

I think Terry Kyle summed it up for you pretty well mate. It's kind of what I was trying to say, I just didn't quite get the wording right.

      Thanks Ali,

I see more clearly what you were trying to say now, and completely agree with it. I love the WF Community, and I guess I do have a solution in hand now, and I began taking action about an hour ago. Will be continuing to put in 5-6 hours per day after school every day until I see profits. Then I will begin to look more closely at what is actually generating the actual profit, and I will replicate it over and over.

      Appreciate the Response

That was 8 Months Ago, and I was very Nervous around the topic of Telemarketing (not an excuse) so I just had someone write them a script, found a lead generator and provided her with instructions, and then let the telemarketers do their 'thing'.

One year really isn't that long, especially when you've already tried half a dozen things - which means you didn't really put enough time into any one thing. You're not going to have any real success until you decide to focus on one thing and stick with it long enough to see some success - which may take several months or more.

It sounds like you get discouraged and give up too easily (which is true of a lot of people). If you keep doing that, you won't get anywhere. This forum is full of "bright, shiny object" - and they can be very alluring and distracting.

    Hi Blinking,

I have been scammed many times over and I am sure almost everyone has been also at some stage of their online business journeys.

Eventually I found a mentor that allowed me to focus on one thing.

That was building a business around list building and it's been the best move I have ever made.

There are just so many things you can do when you have a list of subscribers.

I can sense that you are still determined to make things happen so you are certainly at the right place to find the right information to move you forward.

Hope you continue and find something that you can really run with.

    All the best!

From reading the OP what i felt was. You are about to make it in affiliate marketing but you gave up too early and you wanted to keep learning things are risk of not doing anything....

"Started With Affiliate Marketing - Finally Made $16 After Two Months, however I'd already moved onto something else
    Balance - $-734"

Some folks here have not even made that $16 even after 1 year.. yes $16 for two months is nothing, but thats how you reach $200 and $1000 months.

I dont advise that method but looks like that jump from affiliate marketing of making $16 to a totally new world and enter into outsourcing (that too bigger budget projects) costed you for YOUR decision..

If you are wanting to make desperate steady monthly income at least for the beginning offer some service and get some clients/referrals.

One year is not very long to build a business. Sounds like you quit too early before you give anything a chance to start working. Decide what you want to do and stick with it until you get it right. You can then move on to something else.

Definitely have to agree with this guy.

I make a pretty good amount from affiliate marketing, and I know some Warriors who are making even more with affiliate marketing alone, than I am from everything combined each month. lol no joke

But for real, you never should have stopped at least trying the one thing that was showing a promising start.

I know it didnt seem like a lot, but it was SOMETHING!

Looking back, my first online earnings were practically nothing. But it let me know that what I was doing DID work.

From then on, its just learning, tweaking & adapting..

First of all: Stop looking for "the answer!" Buying other's guides and so on is great if you can:

    a) Afford to do so
    b) Are looking for advice

But if you're looking for the 1... 2... 3... Of IM then forget it. No matter how hard the 'guru-types' try it is near impossible to full explain how to make money and guarantee it.

What you need to do is focus on something and stick to it. Do your keyword research, set your site up and get posting to it and keep posting every 2-3 days and keep it coming. Then begin to do a little off page SEO here and there... Nothing intensive and don't spend money on backlinks (not yet anyways). Then keep posting. In time you'll rank and with ranking comes traffic... With traffic come buyers and with buyers comes money. Done!

Once you've mastered it with one site, then outsource all the content creation for that site and leave it with someone updating it for you and move onto the next. Repeat, get it earning and then outsource that one too.

    Just keep going.

    Good luck with it all!

Have you ever considered writing and selling E-books? You can sell it on Amazon or Clickbank. AT LEAST YOU MADE 16$ IN 2 MONTHS - just repeat what you were doing and soon you will be making 1,600$ a month or 16,000$ a month. STICK TO ONE IDEA.

Stop spending money right now. Read everything you can find on this forum. Then make a plan for a business and keep your eye on the ball. don't waver and don't stop believing. For me personally I was at this thing called internet marketing from the start of the internet and only started making money the last three years.

#1 - Focus on creating a "business" and not just doing these get rich quick schemes that you've been trying.

#2 - Start building a list and focus on the list.

#3 - Find your passion and natural talent and stick to it, again quit being drawn in by the latest get rich quick scheme.

#4 - Start branding yourself and building a reputation for quality services and products.

#5 - Realize that 9 out of 10 small businesses fail in the first 5 years, so you'll need to build AT LEAST 10 businesses before you have one that is going to last for a while and "succeed".

    Hope that helps!

First I agree with pretty much everyone who has said to stop buying WSO's or other products.

What you will find is that most of them are variations of the same basic model anyway.

The other reason is because of the mindset it puts you in.

When you are focused on buying products that you hope will teach you "the secret" or give you "the answer" your focus is on the business or system instead of people.

However if you change your focus to people, then you will start to see common problems they have, common questions they want answered, common things they want solved, etc.

And then once you start to see those things, then you can either create a product that solves those things, or find a product to promote that solves those things.

This will make your life so much easier.

What I would suggest is this.

Create a list of your interests

Choose 2-3 of those interests that you would like to combine with IM

Do a search in Google on "your interest+forum" and "your interest+blogs" and mark down the top 10 results for each.

Then take a week or two to look through those forums and blogs and see if you can find common themes, common questions people are asking, common problems that people are running into, and mark those down onto a separate paper.

Then you can either look through clickbank or other sites and find products you would like that solves those things.

Or you can choose to create a product that solves those things.

Then get your site set up and your autoresponder if you are going to build a list (highly recommended)

and then join those forums and start posting with a sig if they allow it

and see if you can guest post on those blogs

or by banner ads/text ads on those forums and blogs because the visitors will be targeted traffic for your product.

    This is a start.

I agree with pretty much everything said in this post, and i'd like to add a few more pointers.

First and foremost you need to set a goal - i.e. how much do you want to be earning per month? Once you have your income goal you can start thinking about the hows.

how much profit do you need to make per sale to hit your monthly goal?
are you gonna be selling primarily one-time purchases or focus more on memberships, you should have at least one recurring source of income - eaxmples - be an affiliate for web hosting or autoresponders, or some other tightly targetted membership site.

example: my goal is to make $1000 per month, and i'll focus on selling recurring membership subscriptions. It costs $20 per month and my commission is $10 per signup. So i just need to do some math $1000
divided by $10 = 100 subscribers needed. SO now you got to decide how quickly you want to reach that goal, i'd shoot for at least one subscriber per day.

now you need to strategize. ask yourself(or others) how to get *targetted* traffic - amny ways to do that, but here's how i'd do it on the cheap...

get a hosting account, i use hostgator, use there quick wordpress install in the cpanel, setup wordpress, and add ina few good plugins, and install a nice theme. this will be your home base, what you want to do is immerse yourself in the kind of information your market is into learning, so you know what they want to learn about what products/services they love already, what things they hate or compalin about, their biggest challenges, and you want to add that kind of info to your blog - make a post for everything that theyed want to know about - new products and services, industry news, what's hot,etc - your blog will basically be a hub of lots of info that you add over time. you also weae in recommend free and paid offers into your posts and side bar ads. So they'll come to consume the info on your blog/site and leave to check out your recommendations - and you are the traffic director.

next you gotta get out there and subsribe to all the popular blogs and forums and rss feeds, youtube videos, etc in that niche so you always have tons of info on the topic coming to you - curate, re-write, outsource geting this info onto your blog/site - so they have a reason to keep coming back, you'll also want to get them to join your sites mailing list so you can let them know as new info is posted and drive them all back to your blog to get it over and over.

you also have to regularly go out and leave comments and feedback and interact on all those external sites where they hang out and link back to your blog. so you have this concept like in plumbing where traffic flows into and through and back out of your site. if you want more pressure create more backlinks on external sites.

once traffic is flowing in then you should get to know your metrics. You want to know how much traffic is coming in, how much is moving throughout your blog/site and how much is leaving to check out your offers.

then you need to simply tweak the procedures and process that can improve each of these metrics - some need to be lowered like bounce rate, some need to be increased like optins, etc. each of these metrics represent the results you are getting at each point - if you get a high bounce rate then you need a course or help to improve the bounce rate, if you're getting a lot of visitors but no click-throughs then your traffic must not be interested in what you are presenting to them (or they may even be robots or automated agents that are reading your page but not there to buy anything), if you are getting click throughs to offers but no sales then you need to do a better job of warming up your visitor before redirecting them to an offer, and sometime the sales page of the actual offer that they land on is just not doing a good job, but if you point out all the benefits they'll buy it or optin to get it for free if you do a good job of selling it to them. if you have 100 people hit your site and 97 leave without taking any action, why don't you present them with an exit popup that summarizes the offer, or presents an alternative offer all together. i was earning about $100 per month from people that joined a membership site from my exit popup - these were people who were leaving my site.

so yeah, figure out your monthly income target, pick offers that help you reach that target, create a hub to send traffic into and build a mailign list(both optional but recommended), drive trafic from multiple external sources into your hub or direct to the offer, then watch your numbers and learn the tactics that help to boost those numbers, but keep everything inline with your overall strategy - don't keep switching your main goal/strategy. This can be as simple as setting up a squeeze page to collect targetted optins and just using email follow up - the emails can send them direct to offers or to your blog to read your latest posts. the more external links and optins you create the more traffic you can command, but traffic is useless if it is untargetted and/or if you can't convince them to buy anything.

Clarity is a HUGE part of IM success. It's so simple when you know it -- and darn difficult when you don't! I owe my mentors a world of thanks for bringing this clarity.

IM is actually pretty simple: you can sell only one of two things:

    1. Products
    2. Services

    That's it!

And selling products or services online happens in the same basic way for everyone, no matter what they're selling:

    Traffic > Opt-in page > Autoresponder series (or e-zine) > Sales page

That's it! It's just that simple. (We IMers tend to overcomplicate things.)

But no matter what your niche is, or whether you're selling a product or a service, do you know what your business model is?

A business model is the framework or skeleton of your business. Essentially there are three types of online business models:

    1. Membership-based model

A membership-based business model allows you to build a community of people (your members) who are as passionate about your subject as you are. Your membership fees can be monthly or annual, but either way, you're building recurring, passive income.

There are a lot of resources and information out there to help you build a membership-based business if you're interested in doing this.

    2. Product-based model

Selling products allows you to maximize your time and effort by selling items over and over again. This can be hard goods or it can be information products. Information marketing is it's own business model under the product-based model. Information marketing allows you to take your brain to the bank by creating a product ONCE based on what you know and selling it over and over again.

Affiliate marketing falls under both models. You can choose to market either products or services as an affiliate.

    3. Service-based model

Selling services can be great for 1) generating quick cash (as in the case of article writing or video producing) and 2) establishing your expertise and getting testimonials.

However, in the long run, your goal should be to offer services at a PREMIUM. The biggest advantage of IM is LEVERAGE. You're able to leverage your time, money and expertise exponentially online. We all have just 24 hours each day. Time to get ruthless about what you expect for those hours you spend in IM each day. Expect more of yourself and more from your business friends, clients, partners, etc.

What results are you getting for those hours you spend online each day? Ultimately, your services should be at the bottom of your funnel and cost the most since they involve your time and personal attention. (We all have a limited amount of time each day.)

The fun (and confusion) comes in with all of the endless mix-and-match possibilities of the above models. If you're just starting or still struggling to make money, keep it simple:

    Pick just ONE!

    1. Pick ONE niche. (Something you're interested in and know something about.)

    2. Pick ONE target market for your product or service. (Who will buy what you're offering? The more specific you are, the more you narrow it down, the more successful you'll be.)

    3. Pick ONE business model.

Now that you're clear about what business you're in, FOCUS! (And stop buying any info not related to your niche and target market, period!)

    F -- Follow
    O -- One
    C -- Course
    U -- Until
    S -- Successful

And remember: build a list, Build a List, BUILD A LIST!

In IM, it's easy to put the cart before the horse. Take a deep breath, step back and consider what type of business you REALLY want. Don't worry about getting traffic or buying that expensive traffic product until you know 1) what your business model is, 2) what niche you're in and 3) WHO your target market is!

Successful business people will tell you that MARKETING is more than half the effort that's needed for success anyway. So pick a niche, target market and business model. Then spend most of your time and effort marketing it.

If you DON'T have a solid plan or system, THAT'S when it's hard. A good system will shave YEARS (and save you big $$$) off of your learning curve

That's why I recommend investing in at least one good, comprehensive IM course (or mentor who will give you such a system) instead of jumping from one $37 e-book to the next. A lot of people here complain about not being able to make any money. But neither are they willing to invest in their business. (Buying a random bunch of $37 e-books doesn't count.)

The best thing I ever did was invest in a comprehensive IM course aimed at REAL business owners, not just other IM wannabes. Yes it was $1500. (It's no longer available.) But it was truly some of the best A-Z IM info I ever bought. Everything else I've learned (from the $37 e-books) since has simply been plugged into this system.

Get a solid plan or system and then work the plan!

    Hope this helps!

I know exactly where you're coming from, but you must be consistent with one thing for it to succeed.

Going by all the different fly by night scams you got involve with it seems that fundamentally you are taking the wrong approach to this. If you have the mentality of "get rich quick" then naturally you are going to gravitate towards "get rich quick schemes", which usually don't work.

Please give me some more detail on exactly what you've tried and I'll see if I can help. How big is your list for example?

Try looking at marketing as a business.
Make a plan, work out what you end goal is, then work you way backwards on how you got there.

I understand your frustration because in the beginning I spent a lot of money and I faced many unexpected problems.

After spending so much and getting nowhere, of course you cannot abandon this battle.

I advise you to look for affiliate products that are in demand. Learn how to promote products that people are already buying online. Amazon is a very good alternative. Clickbank and Rapbank are also very good options. Sell the products you’ll find there.

Don’t create your own products before learning how to sell affiliate products.

I started trying to sell my own products online before learning how the internet works…

It’s very hard to sell something online if it is not as demanded as known products that internet users trust, especially if you have a fierce competition from strong competitors.

Before doing anything, look for buyers. Sell what internet users are already buying from someone else. Give them more bonuses, do something to send them to your offers.

It’s also a good idea to have different income streams instead of depending on only one.

If you can provide a service like writing, website building, etc, this is a very good alternative. You should to both. Sell affiliate products and provide a service; if possible related to the products you are trying to sell.

  • Hi Dylan,

I hear you and feel the pain. I can relate somewhat on what you are going through. Look I think your main issue is you tried to do too many things. There is a constant theme you see in this forum. The smart and successful internet marketers will tell you, in order to succeed in this industry you need to FOCUS on ONE BUSINESS MODEL and MASTER IT.

In order to master a business model you need to keep on testing and tweaking. This is key. Before you gave up on a business model, you may have only been 5 or 6 tweaks away from a profitable business.

Look at it this way. If Thomas Edison gave up on his 9,999 attempt on testing a light bulb, we wouldn't have one! He got it right at his 10,000th attempt!

So I strongly urge you to stick to one model and master it.

Also please STOP SPENDING your money on IM products and ready made businesses. The best investment you can make, which is the best investment I made in this industry is to invest in a top notch IM personal coach.

You want someone who has been there to guide you through. To be your mentor and motivator. This will make a HUGE DIFFERENCE! In fact, would be it made the difference of success and failure.

Your personal coach will let you know if your business model is worth pursuing. If not he/she will help you find one that is.

Don't give up but be smart about it and you'll be fine!

You need to pick one idea and stick with it. You will never make any money jumping from one idea to another.

If you have so little faith in your own ideas to persist with them after set up, why do you spend thousands of dollars on tools / outsourcing in the first place?

Before you spend another penny on your "education" I suggest you think long and hard about the route that you want to go.

Personally I'd suggest selling something rather than Adsense. Adsense is great if you have a hobby site that is generating traffic that you want to monestise but I certainly wouldn't set up Adsense sites as a stand alone business. Too much hard work for chump change...

Either build your list (and recommending products to people you have a relationship with) or create your own product.

But whatever you choose to do, stick with it. Don't rush into any old rubbish...

Mate, as you say you see too much potential in too many things. Yeah sound familiar to me, but you have to focus on one GOOD idea and try to push it for as long as possible or you fail every time. But real advice (as someone said) is to have your own idea, your own product or business! If need invest more time and money in your idea, it's harder and longer way in many cases, but it pays back a lot more after... Anyway, GOOD LUCK, CHEER UP

First of all bro I say congrats to you for not giving up. That is what it takes to be successful and some people just don't have it. Now to truly be successful you have to simply do things in a Certain Way.

I would first suggest to find what you are passionate about out of all the things you can do in the Internet and choose to do that.

As for my suggestions, well I feel you about the whole Google being unstable etc.. I have been there. We recently did some research and came across the power of Squidoo.

Now I know everyone won't feel the same regarding Squidoo but once you understand how Google works and how they really want just trust worthy "pages" up in their search results then you will begin to realize how powerful it is to be an "inner page" of the PR 7 Squidoo.

Instead of making a bunch of sites that not only could but most likely will get wiped down (as you and I already know) you will be able to make detailed and well thought of "lenses" in Squidoo on things that are popular, you are passionate about etc.

There are more technical detailed stuff to learn about the whole Squidoo thing but it is looking like a truly legit way to make an income without worrying about getting wiped out. I call it an educated risk as there is always risks in anything you do.

I leave you with one of my favorite speeches and hope you are able to continue your journey online.

Omar pretty much used a video I watch every time I feel down so thats pretty badass. I'm having just a bit more success in AM marketing than the experience you described, but I keep discovering different things that I need to change. I'm coming to realize that these tweaks are helping me up the profit and efficiency of how I work. I suggest working on one thing (just like everyone said here at least 39420 times) and then finding out what needs to change, most of the things people speak of here (currently) are things which work....otherwise we wouldn't' speak about here on WF. The thing is that there is competition and there's a lot to learn, so you need to keep changing but stay at the same base. I think thats the way you need to go...and like me, I suggest watching youtube motivational video (5-6 minutes) before you get the day going. Hope everything will work out my friend, just know you're not alone here.

yes I agree, there is nothing like sticking to a plan.

      Eventually you will....

      1) know what works.

      2) Know what doesnt work.

Two simple rules to killing it online. Simply just keep doing the things you know what works, cause no matter what niche you are in, they will work killer or even better. NEVER GIVE UP.

    My advice:
If something is not working or is very hard, dont quit and jump to the next thing, stick to the current thing you are doing and PERSIST UNTIL YOU SUCCEED
Things are never easy, especially in business, you will have many difficulties, but you have to constantly modify and improve your business and adjust to new situations that arise.
    hope this helps you somehowe

Honestly I don't know which direction you thinking about, but I like affiliate marketing. Don't use Google for traffic.... Unless it is free and you have a system that can get you ranked high. Dylan,

Never give up.... What did Steve Jobs say? "Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish". I would strongly suggest that you stay, or at least start, with affiliate marketing. It is the easiest to deploy and market. Also, never stop creating. Although I do performance/affiliate marketing full-time, I also have at least 6 or more website ideas/projects going at all times.

I've had great success with Craigslist marketing. It is by far the easiest (and cheapest) to start with. I'm too new to PM on here but feel free to email me at keith[@]brainsgonewild[.]com - I'm happy to help you anyway I can. Best of luck!

I would echo what everyone else is saying.

Never giving up is a key to succeeding in life.

I remember in boot camp that I always had trouble climbing the rope. Of course, the option to give up was never possible. It was extremely difficult, but about 1/3rd of the way in I was able to finally climb the rope and that first success was the best feeling in the world.

I'm going to go against the grain here and say that you're main problem is not your ability to focus.

I have my degree in psych, went to counseling for 6 years, did counseling myself when I graduated school, and I think you're biggest problem is the depression.

I know how I work in different mindsets, and I've never been effective at anything when I'm depressed. I'm sorry, but its the truth.

So if you want my honest recommendation, work on the depression first, then work on starting a business second. What I believe is going on is this. You're imagining that when you have a successful business, you will be happy, and that is poison. That is a cancer to your brain. It is NATURAL for people to think like this, but NOT to the extent that depressed people do it.

It is going to influence every single decision you make. Its going to create massive pressure, its going to cause you to stop things and move on to new things because you are DEPRESSED and lack the confidence to STICK WITH 1 IDEA.

Like I said. I'm not trying to offend you. I'm giving you advice like I would give if I was counseling someone. You don't need business or marketing advice, you need a reason to be happy. You need to find that reason in yourself, not in some dream business.

    Take care - Rob

Some good advice here from experienced IMers. I would add my 2 cents by saying you definitely need to focus on one approach especially when you are starting out. Invest your energy and effort, not all of your money in making it successful. You must have a warrior mentality to make it. There are some good and inexpensive systems out there, but you need to put in the effort. None of them work overnight. You must build a solid foundation first. I honestly think the link below can really help you out.

I would stay away from SEO marketing as well. Google can change things at any time. I would focus on finding a niche, becoming an expert in the niche, and then building a list for a product that you create.

If you provide value to your list members and customers and survey what they want you can make money. Definitely don't give up. I haven't had any success either but I'm starting to learn what the successful people in IM are doing.

Hey friend, you made $16 with affiliate marketing. Din you? You had a little success there. If you want to be a success stop jumping around. Stick to a plan. Yeah I was in a same boat as you few years back. But I sticked to my plan and you know when one thing start working for you, then you find ways to work with others too.

I started with reviews sites until i made $500/pm. Then I made more review sites, gt them ranked, then I moved on to different things and eventually I am doing well in most of them.

So do with what you already had some success instead of finding a another source of failure of you.

Honestly, you just have to remember that there are so many other people (millions) doing SEO, Articles, Keywording, etc....Sometimes you have to think outside the box. Try to create a new product, or get into reselling, dropshipping, ebay, or something like that. I personally make my money in affiliate marketing, but I jumped on a niche at JUST the right time and now the competition is having a hard time catching up to me. You really have to get to thinking alot. When you feel the lightbulb go off in your head with that great new idea, its time to act and never quit until you exhaust all avenues.

Please don't give up. Frustration can set in and you've not failed for wanting to to happen as evidenced by the money you've shelled out but I'll say this. I spent less than a 1/10 of the money you have to learn how to do business on the internet and during my time online I've gotten about 20,000% ROI so far (4 years). Not the greatest amount but it definitely gets me out of the 95% of internet marketers who earn nothing.

If I could give you one small piece of advice it would be to actually take what you've learned and put it into practice. Going from system to system is like buying 10 different work out DVD's and not losing a pound because you never actually took the time to do them consistently.

Also, don't discount working on the small stuff. I looked through the list of things you started working on and it's all very grand in scale. Try starting small, achieve that small objective and then repeat the process until you've built it up to something great.

    All the best to you.
