Whats the best way to market Windows Software?

I have developed a number of windows based graphics based software products - some for sale and others to give away for list building.
Does anyone have any real experience marketing software products willing to give me tips about the best ways to market?

I don't mind spending some money advertising but really want to avoid the most expensive part of a learning curve finding out what takes too long and isn't cost effective.

    I think you need to do some SEO work. there are many forum sites about Windows. you can use the Forum sites, Article, back linking & so on.

    I agree with Wealthycalrk, find your most important keywords and long tail keywords launch google adwords or invest some money on big software download sites like CNET, Softonic, Softpedia to increase downloads.

    The best advice I can give you if you want to get fast results is to actually use paid media such as pay per click.

    Just make sure that you only work with the big names such as Google/Yahoo/Bing.

    This will help you get faster results then trying to get traffic for free.
