Where to hire good VAs?

After lurking through the forums, I see that the answer to my solution right now is to hire a VA to finish my ebook writing and proofreading.

I guess it was fear all along that has stopped me from going forward with this option, the fear of a bad outcome and loosing money, the fear of the VA taking my Ebook story, or the fear of failing.

Whatever it is, Its time to say NO-NO-NO-NO- IT to the fear and just go ahead and hire my first VA and see how it turns out. Nothing ventured nothing gained right?

So the question is, where do I go to hire a trustworth VA who isn't too expensive? Thanks!

You can search for one at Elance.

You can hire a VA, However, I suggest that you just outsource the ebook writing and proofreading to someone on eLance. That works best if you're dealing with just one task at hand. If you have multiple ebooks etc.. on a regular basis, then it might make better sense to hire a VA.

Just google it .. You'll find plenty of sites.

Outsourcing and VA are two different things? I didn't even know...

Basic overview of what a VA is and what they do:

Virtual assistant - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

You probably want a ghostwriter to finish your ebook. There are plenty of Warriors you can look to; but test them with small orders first. There are a ton of "writers" who have no business selling their service here:

VA's- it seems that there is a healthy mix between hourly and fixed price providers.

Writers- most work for a fixed price.

Just search on "warrior for hire" section to find someone writing for your eBook. A lot of good writer there, read the reviews and choose one based on the budget you have.

    Best of luck,

  • It depends what you are looking for in a VA. If you want a full-time VA who can do a broad range of tasks for you (including ebook writing and proof reading) then try bestjobs.ph.

You can find some very decent Filipino VAs who have English skills and are of quite affordable and offer great value. However, you need to take your time searching and interviewing the right candidates. But when you do find that right VA, you would have uncovered a gold mine!

    That's a great decision.
Go on Elance or Odesk (I prefer elance)

Sign up, it's free. Then post your job and place your budget. Don't worry about putting a very low budget, I do it all the time and always get bids. Sometimes from talented people that want to work just for fun. Not everyone on these websites is a professional freelancer.
And even if they are, you'll always find some young ones without much experience, willing to do the job for very little just to gain experience and good feedback.

Outsourcing has been one of the best choices I have done so far.

    Good luck!

ps. There is also getfriday that offers a VA service. I would avoid it as it's a bit expensive and require you to commit to them.

I never pay hourly. Always task based.

I actually find oDesk very good -- since you can filter the searches, and see contractors work histories, rates, scores, feedbacks, etc & etc. I have worked with at least 10 of them from oDesk -- so far so good.

hey Yu, my recommendation is checking out this site onlinejobs.ph I had good experiences with Philippino outsourcers. Just make sure to contact at least 10 people and someone will get back to you for sure.

To make your search even easier, try looking into their prefound workers section. They're a bit more expensive but they come with portfolios, work samples, and they're been tested for their work skills and personality profiles. That way you get a good look of what they can do and you can see if they have the right attitude for this kind of work.

You can no longer find Craigslist outsourcers on Odesk. They flag your ads immediately.

If you are only hiring for a short term project than it's best to go with odesk or elance. Both are absolutely great.

However, if you're looking for long term VA, (Prolly 3 months or more - It's pretty much long term in IM world) I highly recommend Virtual Staff Finder - The Best Virtual Assistant Services Company in the World! or Hire the best Filipino employees and virtual assistants the Philippines has to offer!

    Hope this help,
    Jeremiah

I have worked with some good VA in oDesk. They were reliable and hard working. But if you don't use filter option while posting jobs, you may receive a lot of crappy application.

There are many quality VA's in Odesk, elance and even craigslist. You just have to filter through the applications. Test them, interview them and have them show you some samples of their work, this way you can determine if you and your VA is a good match.

    Hi Yu Hong!

I am glad you asked this question. There are many sites which you can find and hire a suitable and qualified VA but few sites only give you with credible people. Based on my experience, a lot of affordable quality VA's you can find are in odesk.com, fiverr.com, and onlinejobs.ph.

Interview your candidates and let them have a paid test in order for you to see who best suits the standards.

If it something that pertains to writing, I think you'd better get a fellow warrior who is a native English speaker to do the work for you. Start here in WF.

If you are looking to hire someone specifically to finish this ebook, then you need a writer, and you need one on a project (freelance) basis. Use oDesk, Elance, or any of the very large established freelancer sites to hire a writer, or hire a Warrior.

If you need a VA, that's different. Then I believe you should be hiring one to be part of your virtual staff working only for you full time (or part time if you can't afford FT yet). That's why sites like OutsourceFactor exist, and its alternatives. And some people just hire full time VAs on oDesk, but I prefer knowing that my VA is working for me and is being paid directly by me (via PayPal), not out there worrying that they only have a contract through oDesk which can disappear at anytime.
