Most Important Things for You to know about Current Niche Forums Signatures and Forums PR

I am researching information about forums and forum signatures now.
It would be great to have some feedback from Warriors about it.

How much do you use Forum Signatures in your campaigns?
Are they useful for affiliate sales? Does it make sense to use any kind of automatic systems for posting them or it is useful only with manual submission? Your opinion?
Would you recommend to use Forum Signatures for people looking for some quick affiliate sales?
How niche forums are useful for your business and your site?


I am creating a forums list for different niches now, including information about forum size (how many pages, how many members), Forum PR, Follow-NoFollow information/options, Signature rules (if it is allowed, how soon can you create your signature, after how many posts), possibly age of the site, where is it hosted. Does it sound like useful information for other Internet Marketers? (I find it useful for me, but it would be good to know other people's opinion.)

Let me know if it sounds like something that could be useful for Warriors.
It is definitely useful for me, but I am curious how much other people are interested in this subject, information.

Let me know also what other information you would like to see in this list.

    When I'm looking at forums, I know I'll be spending some time there. So I look for two main things - activity and culture.

    Activity - Is the forum active, or is it a ghost town populated with zombie accounts? Do the people tend to stick to the subject, or is there a lot spamming?

    Culture - Are the people respectful, or at least reasonably so? Are flame wars common or even stoked to provide activity? Are there a lot of people yapping in the wind to drop signature/profile links?

    As for that other stuff, I really don't care what the home page's PR is or whether links are nofollow. If signatures are allowed, fine, that's a plus. But it isn't the overriding factor...

    The main things for me is how much information i can gain or learn from the forum.
    How friendly the people are, ive been to forums that are really tight knit with eachother and are rude to newbies, a huge put off.

    Yes, enormously. Provided you really add value. It's like so many other things in IM, really: it's about quality and relevance, even when it doesn't always look that way.

    Not really - not "quick" (though I suppose one might get lucky?). It seems to me that it's about gradually establishing credibility and trust, and getting readers/visitors on your side, so that they're already well-disposed toward you before they click your link.

    As with backlinks, page ranks and no/do-follow are completely irrelevant to me: I don't even look at them. All I care about is quality and relevance ... and - in the case of forums - traffic, but I guess that last parameter (which isn't difficult).

    In my opinion, quite a bit of that information isn't really useful to marketers at all, but many think it is, so there's probably a market for it.

    My belief is that most folk visit a forum initially out of curiosity and perhaps hoping for signature link juice, but in the case of WF end up staying regardless of the feedback from their link as there's so much else to be gained here.

    This is a forum of like minds, each attempting to learn more (irrespective of their current IM experience level), so as such the question of signature linking after how many posts, age of the site, etc, etc, is not relevant whatsoever. If it is then it's only a bit part in the greater scheme of things.

    Look on forums as a second home to many people. They make friends, acquire information, pass some time, but I doubt many look on it as a major source of income for their business. If they do then I'm extremely surprised as I can personally make more with a handful of blog postings in a single day than I could in 12 months of signature link responses from forums.

    I doubt it. I don't think anyone needs educating on the benefits (or not) of forums. Smart people participate because they still want to learn something from it, and not so smart people participate because they want to learn from the smart people.
