Twam...You heard it here first...I coined it! I'm sure someone already thought of it....

Anyway...I see "Twam" being the death of Twitter...I have already been twammed on Twitter and already have been accused of twamming. Twitter just seems Waaaay to easy to exploit right now...but it just has not caught on quite yet...It's kind of like the early days of MySpace when only a few Marketers were using it and were finding all the exploits and just loving life

I am an extreme newbie on Twitter and I joined it to assess it's value in driving traffic to my main site VisionDrivenBusiness.com

I opened my Twitter account on the 19th of this month..Did nothing with it for the first 5 days...Researched all the methods I could in how to get traffic from Twitter and stumbled upon a method 2 days ago that has definitely attracted me a lot of followers but not too much tangible traffic to my main site as of yet.

In the last 2 days I went from 2 followers to over 500...IN 2 DAYS!

Now I am really trying to make sure my Tweets are targeted and add value to my followeres so they feel inclined to re-tweet me

I have figured out a semi-automatic method to get followers as well as a semi-automatic method to have valuable tweets posted in addition to my 100% manual tweets...

The jury for me is STILL definitely out on Twitter and the method of implementation that I am using...I need a good couple of months of testing to see how effective it is before I make any real judgement...

But at this point twitter for marketing really kind of reminds me of the old FFA blasters with follow-up auto-response / confirmation back in 1997 1998...No one was actually reading the FFA posts or autoresponse messages because they were all marketing to each other on auto-pilot...I hope Twitter does not devolve into this but I am not sue if it will be able to survive this fate...

As a side not I figured out how to ad my Twitter icon to my Warrior profile but I am not seeing it...I guess I have to log out to see it?...is that right?

Anyone have any feed back or results in using twitter for marketing?

Thanks
Gavin

Twam? that is funny, but right on. I think Twitter is going to do one of two things...either be the biggest thing that ever hit the internet, or be one of those things that people will eventually say "remember when we use to "twitter"? what the hell were we thinking"

Yeah twitter may end up as on one of those VH1 "Remember the 80's" type specials 2 years from now (Internet time compensation) ranking right up there with the Freezy Freaky breath temperature activated winter snow gloves (Google it).....LOL

Anyone getting any good traffic to their main site form Twitter?

until now, twitter still can not find a way to get $ from the traffic. the only future for twitter is being bought by others. who will buy it?

    just my 2 cents.

I'm with this crowd...."what the hell were we thinking?" Twitter doesn't seem very social. Maybe there are people who connect if they hang in there long enough but mostly it's links. Imagine if this forum were only WSOs. Would it still draw this much traffic?

It's only mostly links and people trying to sell if you're following people who are trying to sell. That's like starting an email account, using it only to join mailing lists and then complaining that you don't get personal emails.

Twitter is a tool to communicate, just email or blogs. What you get out of it is solely based on how well you use it.

I think Twitter is fun, and I don't overtly market with it, myself. It's still made me money.

I would be more inclined to go with Twitter+tweet=twit therefore Twitter+Spam= Spit

Twitter Spit. Sounds exactly as annoying as it is. I would agree with you that there are a lot of Spitters on Twitter. But if that bothers you then don't follow them. There is a lot of social activity that goes on as well, tons even. There's a reason it's the most popular growing social network online right now. BUT you have to approach it from a much more social and personal point of view if you want to get any value from your efforts.

Twitter is going to be huge, is currently huge, and is not being used correctly by most internet marketers.

Lots of Twitter haters on this forum, but that's ok...more fun for the rest of us

Seriously though, I've been able to get my blog posts RT'd regularly and I've been getting great clickthrough rates on affiliate links with a few of my niche accounts.

The only time I had an issue was when I went too much into the autopilot mode, but I quickly corrected that. You'd be amazed at what kind of love social leverage can bring you. Just something to think about.

let them twits twat each other with twam and brag about how their 0.001 conversion rate has increased tenfold to 0.01 while we make some real money.

I agree that Twitter doesn't bring the same results at first...however I believe there is more to life than making money. And even within that realm, I'd prefer to build a tangible business brand rather than be stuck with affiliate marketing or CPA for the rest of my life.

This is my plan, but it doesn't have to be yours. I don't plan on using this online game for anything more than what it is, which is a means to an end. A stepping stone to greater things.

Twitter helps me build leverage in my brand and in my products. That's what I'm after...you might have different aims and that is fine.

I get about 300 hits a day from my twitter profile and 500 a day via direct messages and lots of sales and viral through it so i cant turn that traffic down now.

Just posting an article that i have written onto twitter can easily get 100 views in the first 2mins and will often get several re-tweets which means the link is being published over and over.

If say your an article writer you can easily make a living from twitter without going elsewhere for business.

On Twitter it's not about conversion rates per tweet. If you want to use a tweet per sale approach to calculate whether or not Twitter is worthwhile than yes-- please stay off Twitter! And let us continue building networks and relationships with our follower/JV partners/affiliates/prospects/customers.

Manage your time right on Twitter so it doesn't become a time suck, build relationships & networks vs. trying to spam your affiliate link or sales page and the traffic and profits will follow you.

totally agree! all is see on spitter these days is spit spit spit.

if would be fine if i could filter or group the tweets.
tweetdeck tries this with 'groups' but only while connected - i want to group tweets from say the last two days.

there's just to much spit to wade through.

A quick update....at day 3 I am hovering around 760 followers, had about 10 or so of my tweets RT'ed, made 2 clickbank sale directly from twitter traffic, and I am starting to see traffic directly from twitter in my Awstats and Google analytics...

after 3 days this is not too Shabby but I am still skeptical

It always surprises me how so many people miss the point with Twitter. It's simple to eliminate unwanted messages-- just unfollow the person. And that's what people will do if you approach it the wrong way. I think what a lot of people don't understand is that Twitter is a truly social medium, like a cocktail party. You can't use it the way you would a traditional advertising medium. If your business is set up such that personal contact is a major part of it-- and the right persons are on Twitter-- then Twitter can pay off extremely well. If you just want to anonymously hawk your wares, it won't work so well.
