How To Go Viral With Twitter - A Cool Trick

Hey Warriors,

I just posted a video on my blog about a code you can use on virtually anything you promote to make it hit Twitter virally.

Mike Filsaime used this and had his Butterfly Marketing 2.0 product at the 15th most retweeted URL last weekend because of this tiny little code.

So basically, if you release a video, a blog post, a report, a new affiliate site, a new product or whatever, you can add this bit of code and attach it to whatever it is you're promoting. It's better than any plugins because with this, you can alter it to cater to anything you want - that means to include your Twitter user name which promotes you as people find your materials good enough to be retweeted.

Here's the code:

<a href="http://twitter.com/home?status="ANYTHING YOU WANT ANYONE TO RETWEET HERE" target="_blank"><img src="your img loc" border="0" alt="seo friendly alt"></a>

There's more info in the video along with some examples. It's only 3 minutes long, so take a look (no opt in or anything required):

A Cool Viral Twitter Trick

Hope you make use of it!

Kindest,
John Dennis

Great post...I'm using something similar to this to offer a 10 dollar discount on one of my products. I'm going to use it as a giveaway too.

lol... without Twitter, we would have never known who Barak Obama's teleprompter is. Cool find.

I hope you're going to keep it up for awhile. Right now it loads so slow I gave up after 20-minutes and getting only 14-seconds of vid. (I'm on dial up) On the other hand, I switched to another site where they DON'T host their own videos, and watched a 5-minute video after only 10-minutes of load time.

The idea sounds great, but I'd really like to see how you're setting it up and using it, etc.

      Hey Pete,

Yeah, I suppose it's important that some of our peers are still using dial-up (where my mother lives in NC it's the best they can get - and she lives on a multi million dollar property, go figure).

If you'd like I can up this one in a smaller format (I think half the size but can still see the screen decently).

You'd be surprised.. I live in California, but I live in a pretty rural area.. the cable companies won't touch this place, and the phone companies don't think it would be worth it to bring DSL here either. So it's either dialup or satellite, and I've heard from a lot of people that satellite isn't much better than dialup around here (something to do with the iron-filled mountains absorbing the signal or something, I don't know, I'm not too big on antenna/radio theory personally).

          Hey John

Neil - I know what you mean. I'm thinking along the same lines as you my friend.
I was thinking along the lines of a free service that people could use to virally market their sites. And while they're virally marketing their sites with the service, it would be virally marketing mine.

A new IM term is born - DVM - Double Viral Marketing!

          I've got no time though!

    John,

My problem getting the video to load up may be due to all the traffic you're getting! It looks like you're hosting the video on-site, an that may make it slower for me.

    Thanks for the offer.

I didn't expect getting as much traffic as I have been lately, so from now on I'll be using S3 just because of this. I hear its reliable and relatively inexpensive. Has anyone here used it before?

Yeah I don't know why more of us haven't thought about it! I actually used a variation of your example on my site. Instead of linking it to an image, I just used a text hyperlink. Example of what it looks like is in my sig.

I'm new at this twitter thing. What happens when they click on the little banner? Do I get a copy of the RT on my twitter page? Reason I ask is I didn't get any followers and I didn't get any indication that anyone has retweeted but I got a little jump in traffic - so I put the code on another page in my blog.

Neat idea - I love all things viral.

From a development point of view, there is soooooooooo much that could be done with this.

      It's a pity I'm too busy!

      Cheers,

      Neil

UPDATE - Just added this as a text link to a busy page on my site. We'll see what happens!

      Hey Ryan,

If someone starts a Tweet with @YourName then you can see that in your @Replies area on your Twitter homepage. Otherwise, retweets are just a retweet. If you are seeing a bump in traffic, then I'd check your recent came from's in your tracking. If you aren't tracking your blog, start doing so immediately.

If it can be measured, it can be improved.

Neil - I know what you mean. I'm thinking along the same lines as you my friend.
