For a Company Website - Static or Dynamic Homepage?

In regards to using wordpress as the basis for my business website...

is it better to have a static welcome page that basically gives a "who what why when" of why people should do business with me.

Or should I have the dynamic page with recent posts, and news items, so new/old visitors can see what I have been up and creating...and then they can click on the About Us/Me page to learn why they should do business with me if they choose?

I was thinking the static page would have the typical attention grabbing headline, subheadline, etc.

I wouldn't really be selling directly from my static page, I would have pages/categories for products I created that visitors would then click to (or read news updates on recent creations)

Thoughts? Anyone prefer one style or the other upon first landing on a company website?

Well, you could use a static Wordpress front page and still benefit from the dynamic aspects the rest of Wordpress gives you.

You can construct a whole site without using any posts and just pages.

If you wanted to, you could then add posts elsewhere in the site if you wanted a more blog feel about it.

The key of course is all in the theme. Pick a bad theme and the site looks bad regardless!

Static page with a widget on right/left menu bar showng recent posts and your activity. So people interested in your content go to those pages.

Yeah, go with the dynamic approach.

The typical text and graphics sales page may have worked a few years ago, and still works, but is definately starting to lose out to dynamic content such as blogs, videos and audio etc.

Also, don't forget to keep it updated.

        I hope i've helped

Depends really, I've used both. An in between solution is a dynamic blog type front page with a "sticky" intro post at the top - easy to do now in wordpress.

I would agree with Simon. For a corporate website a static front page would be best. You could also add some dynamic elements to the front page such as an rrs feed, but typically a company site is static.

Wordpress will allow you the ease of management as a cms for the rest of the site.

      good luck
