Give Me Your Best Tips for Traffic

Hi Warriors,

I have been a follower of this forum for some time but have never posted.

Out of frustration, I decided I would come to the community for help. I have worked my fingers to the bone for quite a while but just can't seem to develop significant traffic to the sites that I am trying to help. I am doing this for some friends whose sites need traffic but I have not been able to help much.

The friends can't afford much and need primarily free or very low-cost traffic. They have a recipe site which they are attempting to monetize in order to earn extra income as they are on social security.

OK, here is my request of fellow members:

Would you please give me your best tip or action that I can use to help them?

Jeanne

Outside of forum posting, blogging is my 2nd favorite way to generate traffic. I just put up a free WSO that details my content marketing strategy. Check my sig!

My first tip would to approach this whole traffic affair strategically. Desperately latching onto a source simply because it offers a glimmer of hope then being disappointed is not going to work as many seem to approach it.

Let me just say that I don't believe blogging should be a primary source of traffic to concentrate on if you're serious about traffic. Blogs have great uses, and can bring traffic, but is not controllable. Traffic needs to be controllable. Creating content is good for other things, but not for traffic that can be scaled.

The thing is, "free" traffic is not a viable long term solution, and as far as I understand, your friends need an initial bit of traffic to get them going, preferably free.

Do a search on the forum to bring up threads on free traffic sources.

Especially since blogging isn't an actual traffic source. It's like saying if you want traffic, go build a website.

    Hi Jeanne,

FREE Traffic = Months of Individual effort = Being glued to computer for many hours!

Given your situation, create a community on Facebook [or any other online forum/social media site] and provide valuable content to build a relationship. Over time your following will grow and with that will emerge opportunities to monetize the traffic.

All the answers to your traffic questions have been posted everywhere across the web, from forums to blogs and you have no doubt read them all. It's not a traffic generating strategy you need, it's a clarity in thinking and a willingness to follow one method until you make it work.

That's not what you want to hear. It's not what anyone wants to hear. But it IS what you need to hear. It IS what you have to adhere to.

On a higher level, who is your customer? Where do they hang out? You need to identify where they are, and what they are doing. Whatever strategy you work with, it needs to take that into consideration.

      Uh what?

Content itself, no matter how good it is, does not generate traffic out of the blue. I could publish the formula to turn water into wine in my blog, but if I didn't promote that blog the formula no-one would even notice it.

Quality content and traffic are not linked concepts. You need to ACTIVELY promote your content.

What makes this recipe site different and better than the other million recipe sites? If you're doing something different, contact other food related sites and tell them about it. If it is actually interesting and unique (not just a "Me too" blog) they'll likely right about it.

I didn't catch that she had a recipe site. I'd try to get my recipes syndicated on food gawker or punch fork.

    Hello Jeanne,
You seem to have the same problem that I and so many other people have. Driving Traffic. You are so right, if you don't have the right contacts or connections that can sometimes present a problem. I sometimes use regex.com. It drives large amounts of traffic to your sites. I hope that helps.

Well, I will be honest with you. To get traffic there are two options: spend money or work really hard. It doesn't matter what is the strategy you wan to follow (blog, list building, facebook, twitter, video marketing, forums, ads, etc) if you have money to invest the way will be short and fast but if you don't have money then you need to work hard and for a few months until see good results. So, what is your position?

Attack all fronts. Get them to start making YouTube videos or make these videos for them on related topics. Set up Facebook pages and get active on other related facebook pages. Post at least 2 new articles a week. Create a Pinterest account and start posting photos of food with a link to their blog and get active on other related Pinterest accounts. Lastly, start SEO optimizing all pages on the sites for Google traffic.

    Hope that helps!

Creating Joint ventures is easily the best strategy for driving traffic. Most people flop at it cause they lack the communication skills and relationship building skills for getting the job done. If you can master that, you'll have all the traffic you want.

If not, get read to do a lot of blogging and forum posting, providing links back to your site.

You hit the nail on the head. If you want traffic A.S.A.P then a mutually beneficial JV is the way to go... Start with searching Google using high traffic keywords in your niche, contact the top 1-3 by email, phone, snail mail, and make them an offer they cant refuse..... (a nice % of the profits usually does the trick)

My best bet for traffic source to my websites has been social marketing. For example Yahoo Answers has been a great help for me regarding the traffic issue.

I have Yahoo answers level 2 account and use my website in resource box while answering relevant questions. While doing so I get decent targeted traffic to my websites. Also it does not require much time also.

To get more traffic you have to spend more money.
You can do sponsored blog posting, for that you have to find out blogs with high traffic, and send them the request if they are interested to publish the paid posting or review for you, try to use a good blend of text and images while you create article for paid posting.
Try this out and this will definitely increase your traffic

    Okay, here's my secret:

PPC is definitely the way to go. (PPC = pay per click, and it's how most big guru marketers and companies like Apple and Ebay and Amazon advertise)

Yes, you need money to start, but here's my secret loophole.

Search for and download "Perry Marshall Definitive adwords guide." forgot the exact title but you should be able to find it.

This is in my opinion the best book for learning PPC. Learn the hell out of PPC before you go anywhere near it.

Next, sign up for an MSN adcenter account. Yes, MSN..not google adwords. I wouldn't recommend google for a beginner. (Search for create adcenter account on google and you should find a page that can get you started)

After that, go to fiverr.com and search for "MSN Adcenter (or bing) coupons. Look for coupons that will give you up to $200 in advertising)

Buy a coupon pack, load it to your adcenter account.

You now have $200 in your adcenter account. Use what you learned in Perry Marshall's PPC guide to help you. Also, search PPC-coach and sign up for their 14 day free trial. Ask them to help you make the most of the $200 you have in your account.

This is your best and safest bet. Free traffic isn't worth it and all big time marketers get into paid traffic sooner or later.

    Good luck!

    Hi JeanneD!

Given that your friends do not have much budget, it is wise to engage in social media marketing sites such as Twiter, Facebook, and Tumblr. Then, sync all the 3 sites so that you can have consecutive the same content for each.

This is not an assurance but with great quality images and content, there is a high chance that your audience will click through your link and be converted as a customer.

Start with a small group of people and slowly grow your business through referrals from your pioneering customers. Just spend 2 or 3 hours in spreading your content and you will do just fine.

You can buy traffic packs from providers. It's very cheap but I am not sure about the conversion rates. You may know that there are many services around who sell a certain amount of visitors to your website. You can find a very cheap option starting from $5 per 1000 visitors.

Blogging, creating Squidoo lenses, answering questions at Quora, email messages, forum posting, blog commenting, etc. But nothing is enough. There is no time for everything. I focus on writing good content and attracting many readers because this is my best tool.

Someone said that blogging doesn't work by itself for getting traffic because it depends on promotion.

I agree that your blog must be promoted, but if it is already displayed on the first results pages whenever internet users type in its main keywords, the content you’ll post at this blog will work like a traffic magnet.

A blog with a good ranking is an excellent traffic generating method that doesn’t depend on extra promotion.

adcenter / bing and google when you get better.

      Hi Jeanne,

You'll always receive an overwhelming amount of help here in the warrior forum. That's one thing I learned very quickly about being apart of this community.

I'll go ahead and chip in my 2 cents as well.

My top five traffic points right now are as follows (in no particular order):
      • Social media (Facebook/Twitter)
      • Forums (Warrior Forum/Social Media Examiner)
      • Content Aggregators (Scoop.it / BizSugar.com)
      • Blog commenting
      • Leveraging influential relationships

I just relaunched my blog about 2 weeks ago and I've been focusing on using free high leveraged methods to drive traffic to it, outside of seo. It's been working fantastic for me.

I've just released in depth traffic case study over on my blog where I share the exact break down of all of my current traffic mediums. It should provide you with some additional ideas.

You can also check out this forum post: Did you know about this traffic source? To see a quick snippet of an effective traffic strategy I've been using.

Oh, and you can also check out this blog post to see how to set up some killer cost effective banner advertising.

      I hope this helps you.

      Hi,

Whatever methods you try, you're not going to get backlinks without having quality content. If you believe you have the good content, and it's a blog you're trying to promote, you may want to try linking to other blogs and Web sites. Hand out a favour to them, and they will hand one back.

I am averaging 200+ unique a day from my personal blog without doing direct seo on it. I thought at first the traffic is not that much until one of my friend told me that she only averaging 20 unique a day.

In my case I use social media, forums, and blog commenting as source of back links. For social media I see to it that I join related groups and from time to time share some value to group. If members of those social groups always see you sharing valuable information they will follow your link every time you post in the group and sometimes they share to their friends.

Create YouTube videos around the keywords you wish to target. Then optimize your videos for those keywords. Including your target keyword in: Title, Description, Tags, and even channel would be good.

Then build backlinks to your video or buy a few gigs on Fiverr.

This strategy works great for ranking your video in Google and YouTube to bring in the traffic you need for that keyword.

yup, great stuff then get backlinks to those backlinks by posting links to videos on heavy traffic forums, blogs, articles and facebook. Tis a great way to get extra traffic while boosting your SEO.

Theres lots of super suggestions above. My 2 cents would be to id your market, find you where they hang out and go tell them. Blogs, classifieds, articles, posts, video etc OK; but find out first who they are and where they typically go (sites), and interact/advertise/backlink/post/blog/video etc there.

If it`s in the recipe niche i would do a number of things to increase
    traffic

    1. start creating content that others will want to link to (link bait) ie: really cool recipes or something
    2. build a social following
    3. start doing some guest posting on relevant blogs within your niche
    4. write articles all linking back to there recipe site
    5. creating regular quality content for the blog

These work in pretty much any niche but are very powerful and effective none the less
