Is THIS the best long-term method to making money online?

I was thinking the other day about all the ways many here at the Warrior Forum make money online. Most come down to: affiliate marketing, create your own product, CPA/PPV, service based business, SEO, blogging, etc. etc.

Then I started to think, which of these have the most LONG-TERM results. Obviously, CPA marketing is probably the worst for long term since offers and traffic sources come and go. And now, with the ever-changing Google, SEO is like building a site on egg shells.

So what works best for the long term results? I think having your own product and/or doing this might just be the best...

Email Marketing With The Right Funnel In Place

Why?

For one, it can be easy to setup a squeeze page. And second, once you have your email messages in place, and done correctly with a mix of building trust, value, and offers...one tiny squeeze page and solid list can make big bucks (Alexa Smith is great at this, among others here).

So instead of wasting hours on trying to rank in SEO, which doesn't last, or building CPA campaigns that also don't last...shouldn't we simply focus on list building for real long term results?

Now I know there is no perfect answer to this question, I just wanted to open it up for discussion.

And lastly, I'm curious how many of you also ONLY use squeeze pages and list building to make full-time living at it?

Cheers!

I would say that list building can be one of the many good foundations of any business - be it online or offline. It's a broad subject because you can even create an e-book on list building on how to start it, how to maintain it, and how to give value to your list.

List building can be very lucrative and is i agree a good long term business. But i think people (myself included) often get too caught up with list building from free offers.
Main problem being that people who sign up to a freebie list are often looking only for free gifts, solutions, push button riches, and so on. Making them much harder to actually convert into paying customers.

Lots of people also have trouble not with getting the inital opt ins but in creating good follow up messages. The content they are trying to provide to their list may be wonderful but people are so used to hype and have so much hyped up spam rubbish coming into their mailboxes that coming up with a title which will grab someone's attention when one of 30 shift+click...deleted, can be difficult.

For that reason i would say list building + quality copy writing would be your best long term business model. If that means paying someone to write your sequence for you then so be it even if that does come at hefty cost. It's worth it

I agree Braincandy, it really does come down to the basics...trust and value. And not promoting right away, etc.

I'm moving my main business models over to strictly list building and my own products and ditching SEO

I have lots of sites and i'm sick to death of google screwing things up. I had a site which was originally a sniper site which did really well so i grew it into a much larger site with over 50 pages of great content with a facebook page to back it up, 3,500 real members who like and share each new piece of content. PR2. Domain bought Nov 2011, site started Feb 2012.

Now the domain 4 weeks ago was getting 4,000-5,000 visits per month 50% from google, and 95% of that for keywords which were related to but NOT the main EMD. After the recent update my google traffic dropped to around 20 per day. My site is full of high quality content loved and supported real people from facebook and search traffic. No spam backinks. All content written by me or my best writer. Yet still gets f**ked over by google. Don't ya just love google?

Looks like things might be starting to even out now a little bit, as we all know and google admit themselves, sometimes they do these things heavy handed and tweak later. I will continue to build my site with my readers in mind and maybe google will see the light but maybe not.

List building or your own product/service.....even better both. Don't rely on SEO and don't trust people like google or especially facebook to be honest, they want our money and unless you give it to them you will always be running up hill.

I feel exactly the same way. I had a site taken down by G even though I spent a lot of time on it. It might not be THE biggest and best site on its niche but it surely deserved to be there.

I just love when people come in and say to you and me, Oh your site must have been Cr*p otherwise it would not have been penalized and all this. Yeah

Oh regarding the OP, I am also looking at other avenues and unsure how to proceed forward. For some reason list building does not appeal to me. I just never felt comfortable enough in any niche where list building can be applied.

        I dunno

I agree, I've had the same thing happen. And also, it does get annoying when people say that as well, when in fact, you have played by the rules. I'm done with Google.

        Anyway...back to list building

You don't have to like it or agree; but when people say that (and I'm one of them), we are entirely correct. Google thought your site wasn't worthy of being ranked and their opinion is the one that matters. That's the game you play when you base your business on one third party that has no interest in keeping you going. Again, you don't have to like it but whining ain't changing a thing.

The best long-term method surely has to be other people recommending you.

You want others in your niche to talk about you and send traffic into your sales funnel, all while you sip vodka on a beach and write a post once per week.

Lol!..Obviously you are a little new to this game.

FYI: No one knows why a site is being penalized except for Google themselves.
You can only assume but no one is correct on this matter, because
          Well.... Wer not Google.

          OP:
We try to base everything we do around lisbuilding.
Weather its SEO, YT,FB or even offering services always
Have that email ,Traffic then builds up!
Nothing better than continuing to connect with your
          Customers over and over.

          P.S.

I only started seeing good money come in, when I combined
Listbuilding with paid traffic & killer funnels.

          Kal.

Lol, you're obviously new to reading comprehension because that is exactly what the post you quoted says . We don't need to know the specifics of what Google thinks. We know that they penalized the site, which means that they don't feel it is of quality.

Hope that wasn't too much critical thinking for you.

              Fixed that for ya.

No one knows why a site is being penalized. Quality or not?
If quality was the answer like you mentioned
I will then go build 10 sites of the highest quality
Humanly possible and not worry about getting
Penalized. Google never gives out a reason so
Again the answer is we don't know.

SEO is technical and so are other methods people adopt to make money online. You know why such methods don't make anyone enough or long term money? It's because they're focusing on the technology instead of the thing which really makes a person money.

Let me break it down in simple terms - Money is earned when person A gives person B some money in exchange for value.

    That's it!

The key is to have something of value to offer first & know exactly how to market it to an audience effectively.

Building a list is like having regular customers for a product or future products you might have. So it's not just important, it's utterly necessary.

Just study any big company - They don't sell to a person once, they sell to the same person over and over again for years.

Dayne I think list building and providing value to your list is a great way. Offer free videos or ebooks to your list and provide value. I am just learning but someone like Alex Jeffreys does this very well. People buy from him because he provides great content and actually surveys what his list members want in products.

    Hello Dayne,

I would agree that creating your own product (or doing affiliate marketing), list building and doing email marketing is one of the smartest and best ways of creating long term income. Even though it is not the easiest way to make money online. It does give you the following advantages :

1.) High profit margins - Especially when you are good at creating high quality products that others will benefit from.

2.) List building allows you to have your own traffic source so that you do not have to rely on Google or any other traffic source to earn monthly income. (once you have a large enough list and have mastered the art of understanding and meeting the needs of your readers).

3.) You can automate the process so that your email list, customer base and profits are growing (over time) even when you are away : - )

      Exactly... Control is KEY.

Google updates their algorithms with some new ‘zoo animal name’ (like panda) every time you turn around and then you watch your websites and blogs drop in rankings!! Then you get your butt kicked because you DON’T control anything...Google does... and they have you by the “Kahunas”.

YOU have control, when you build your list. That's why I've been building mine since 2001 :-)

To the op, yes list building is what every successful guy online will tell you to focus on.

List building is traffic in demand and residual income for months... (when done right) <---- not so easy.

What's even nicer when you build list and share things with others is when people like to read what you write and when they email you thanking you...
