Fiverr: People That Want You To Do The Work Before They Pay

I have had people demand that I do the work first and then get paid later. It isn't cool. I don't walk into a store, grab a product and tell the cashier that I will try it out and if I like it I will come back and pay for it then walk out the door. It's unheard of. I provide a service, I expect to be paid up front and then I will provide your work and proof, if needed. I usually tell people that want to pay later to not order at all and then I report them. I have a 98% average on Fiverr, if people ask me, "How Do I Know You Will Actually Do The Work", I always tell them, I will 1 provide proof and 2 feel free to read my feedback. If they want to give me a hard time even before ordering, I don't let them order at all.

What do you do?

This happens in all walks of online work, not just Fiverr. I've had quite a few of these people cross my path. It infuriates me as it has seemed to do the same to you. And you used the perfect analogy of taking a product out of a store and saying you'll pay if you like it. It's absurd.

You know, you could always respond with "How do I know you'll actually pay me if I do the work?" But I suppose that's just fighting asshole with more asshole. Funny though.

One thing I have found that works more often than not is a 50-50 split. I will receive 50% payment upfront before ANY work is even started, then I will receive 50% payment upon completion. However, it's touchy there at the end, because you own the "product" until they pay, so you have to work out some way for them to view what you've done, but not hand over ownership until you've been paid.

In my experience the 50-50 split (whether you're buying or providing a product) helps each party in finishing up what was started. The Provider is more inclined to finish said project for the rest of the money (not saying you or anyone wouldn't be, just sayin) and the Buyer is more inclined to accept and finish payment on said project because he/she already paid some.

Although all of this seems a bit ridiculous considering you are talking about being on Fiverr. Seems pointless to do a 50-50 when the overall price is only $5. But anyway that's my 2 cents, and so far I think you've got the right idea, if they are going to be a hassle over $5 and not consider your 98% rating and tons of good feedback, then don't bother with them and continue to tell them not to order.
