How to cloak your ads url on your wordpress blog?

14 replies
I have small 125x125 ads that I would like to cloak the url on. What is the best way to do this without using an tinyurl or something like this?

Thanks,
Jason

    Hi Jason,

    I use Free Link Cloaker (not an affiliate link)

      Wow, I didn't even think about doing that on my blog but I do believe its a bit unattractive to click on a link that you know only leads you to an affiliate site.

      Thanks for the idea.

      Thanks I signed up for this. I was also wondering about this and have reviewed several paid options.

          You could get Mike Filsaime's Power Link Generator. This way you can cloak the link and track click throughs.

            You ncan also go into your Cpanel and do a redirect in there which looks more professional so it ends up looking like yourdomain.com/preferswhatever.htm

                  I just create a new folder (directory) in my domain, put the re-direct code into the new index.html (or.php) file and change the affiliate link to point to the new directory.

                  That makes it look like another page on my site: www.mysite.com/newfolder

                  Cheers,

                  Martin.

                    You could also use WP-Affiliate-Pro plugin. This will automatically insert your affiliate links for keywords that you specify. This is not free, however, it works great.

                1) Free link cloaking (needs PHP on your web server)
                - Create a file on your server and give it the extension .php (e.g. http://www.yourwebhosting.com/address.php)
                - Add the following code (replace the URL with whatever address you want the ad to link to):
                Code:
                <?php
                    header ("Location: http://www.server.com/?affid=1234");
                ?>
                - Link the ad image to the file you created in the first step

                2) Paid method
                Fellow warrior Teli Adlam sells Simple Link Manager:
                Affiliate Link Redirect and Cloaking Script - Simple Link Manager (not an affiliate link)

                SLM offers click tracking and you can give your URLs whatever name you like. So, for example, the URL
                Code:
                http://www.whatever.com/greatoffer
                can redirect to
                Code:
                http://www.greatoffer.com/?affid=1234
                HTH
                Tom
                I went to buy that simple link manager you mentioned above but it seems she isn't selling it anymore. Her site is still up but there is no order page.
