Is it a good idea to offer personalized advice to your subscriber list?

Please offer some advice on this scenario - Lets say I was trying to build a list of people trying to make money online with affiliate marketing (not my niche by the way). To get them to subscribe I would offer them a free report of all the different methods they can use to make money with affiliate marketing. In that report I detail the many different methods such as Amazon, Clickbank, JVzoo and various other affiliate programs.

At the end of the free report I then encourage each subscriber to reply and tell me which affiliate program they are most interested in. Once they have replied I then send them further information about the affiliate program which interests them and include my affiliate link to a guide which could help them with that particular affiliate program.

My questions are:

1. Would this be a good idea?

2. Is it possible to build a list this way and have it segmented so I can promote specific offers based on the individual needs of each subscriber?

3. If I did manage to build a list this way, would it still be possible to communicate with each subscriber on an individual level once the list gets bigger?

Any advice would be great.

Thanks.

This can work, but for the list to get segmented, they would have to optin again under, those segmented topics/lists. If they do optin, then you can send tips and promotions-- that are targeted towards those segments (clickbank, amazon..etc)

You can send, your newsletters to those segments and ask at the end if they have any questions and they can reply back and you can personally answer them or possibly-- hold a Q & A session to answer their questions.

Doing this, build lots of trust and can impact your sales in a good way...

    Hi Pepper,

I believe getting to know your list by personalizing has advantages. Their bond with you will be stronger, you will know exactly what your list is looking for and they will respond to you in ways of conversions when you recommend something to them.
I do however believe that the bigger your list gets the more difficult it will get to cater to each and everyone on you list. You will at some point have to start segmenting your list because it is pointless to have list of 10,000 and only 500 buy. Therefore for people that don't buy a particular offer, you have to try sending them another offer that you think might interest them and once they opt in to that offer they automatically get added to that list.

    Hi pepper81,

Your idea will surely work and your list will definitely like it that you are offering them advise on a more personal level, but if you want to grow your list fast, this strategy can somehow slow you down.

If you think you needed to market on this level with your subscribers, I think this is not a problem. Newbies and those who are new to the industry could surely need all the help you can give them.

here's what I do for one of my clients site who is a HUGE brand and a no. 1 hair clinic in India. I have created a general list of hair treatments that gives them 4 videos. Then once they subscriber the main list automatically bifurcates them to 4 sub niches that is baldness, hair loss, greying and dandruff. Based on their problem they land up in one of these lists. Then I take them to a free counseling session and a specific video based on their problem. Their inquiry moves to the clinic and the follow up process starts to drag them to the consultation. You can do something similar to segment your list based on their problems...
