What's the secret to getting a popular post on reddit?

If there even is one.. I've contributed maybe 10 links/posts and I only ever get one thumbs up.. and that's from myself. The posts aren't bad.. they're relevant to the category and packed with lots of "content". In my case, I run a photo blog. I will post a link to a gallery full of anywhere from 20-70 pictures on a certain topic, yet it gets dismissed quickly. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks

Look at the stuff in each subreddit that is popular. How closely aligned is your content to what is popular in your chosen category? I'm sure you know this but it's more quirky, strange, dark humored and controversial content that is received well on reddit.

Even if your content is good and closely related to the subject matter it needs to have that "edge" to make people on reddit take an interest. Remember they see content in the same niches every day, so you need to have something that stands out or offers something new.

    Thanks.

I guess my biggest problem was that I wasn't a reddit user myself. I never really payed attention to trends or anything, but after an hour or so of just observing you are completely right. Most of the popular stuff seems to be dark humored and strange.
