The best thing a beginner can do

Hello!
I just started my website, it's about science, the website is awesomesciencestuff.com
It's a wordpress blog hosted on hostgator.

I was wanting to ask if anyone can take a look at it, and tell me what i should do to improve it(i will be writing a LOT more content)

Also i was wondering what's the best way to do off page seo for a new website like mine
-should i make backlinks on high pr blogs(if so, can you provide a list)
-learn how to build a link wheel(web 2.0)
- or so'ething else.

Thanks in advance!

If you indicate what your target audience is then this will
determine what help you'll need in terms of content for
the site. Is the site geared towards students, hobbyist,
    teachers ...?

I'm writing for just hobbyists, because, I am a business school student, I don't have a lot to do with science, but I love reading and writing about it, so it's like a hobby, and I actually write stuff I would like to read.
so what do you think suits me more?

I think it's a good idea for a blog, and might do very well if your content's good enough. However you look at it, that's what it's going to boil down to.

        Suggestions:-
        • Form a clear, and perhaps more precisely defined picture of your targeted visitors. Biology and physics are huge subjects and you have of thousands of competitors for blogs on each. You'll get regular readers more easily if you target more accurately
        • Don't post on your blog under the name "chanonymous": it just makes you look like someone with something to hide - use a "proper pen-name" if you don't want to use your own name
        • The sidebar print is difficult to read: there isn't enough color contrast between the background and the printing
        • The ad-box in the top-right corner is a distraction. Unless that's seriously going to be your monetization method, I'd take it away
        • Build a list. You can clearly write some sort of "free report" on something interesting to give as an opt-in incentive? There's no downside, and most future monetization prospects will depend on having a list, so today is a good day to start (as the Klingons - nearly - say)
        Good luck!

Thank you So much for your reply, My website is very young, so when it comes to building a list, I don't think I have enough "authority" to ask for one, I still want to build a good audiance.

Also, adsense is my main monetization atm, so I want it to be as visible as possible, so it could convert more, I have been gettin around 1k views a day from reddit, but nothing from google yet.

You don't need any "authority" to build a list. You just need an incentive that people want. People manage to build lists from pure squeeze pages, and no website can have less "authority" than a squeeze page?

If "authority" is relevant to you (and I'm not criticising that at all!), you need a different name from "chanonymous", though - this is for sure.

Yes, I'm gonna fix the Chanonymous thing, I just noticed it, you're right. I have been using it for a long time so when they asked for a name, I gave em it.
              Thanks a lot!

Agreed. It would be imperative to know your targeted first before doing any seo

I suggest identifying your target audience, and then finding several related online forums or social groups. Contribute value to these groups while including a signature link to drive targeted traffic. Most times you can find inexpensive advertising through these forums and run some banners or even "sticky" threads that will get you a lot of exposure.

Read a lot. Try and read an hour a day or more and then try the stuff you learn. And focus on one method at a time.

Content is very important so you have to focus on this first then move towards natural link building in which you have to use almost all the methods of link building, I would say.

  • Hi Chanonymous,

How do you intend to earn from this website? CPC and CPM ads? CPA offers? Affiliate product sales? Selling your own products and services?

In my opinion, knowing how you intend to earn from your website (an online marketing campaigns) will also allow you to zone in on a niche (or niches) within your chosen subject area, zone in on a specific target market, customize the overall look, feel and functionality of your site, develop content for your target markets, list down specific online places where you can post your content in front of the eyeballs of your target markets and customize your onsite and offsite marketing campaigns...

Keep the articles coming, and read a lot but don't burn yourself out on the topic. Keep it interesting, and only post articles that you yourself would find yourself interesting. Find your target audience and adapt to it. Start link building to sites that are relevant, and keep your content strong. You're on the right track.

You need to post new content in each of every day. It would generate more traffic. Just make sure that all of your content is genuine and pure. You would get lots of traffic. Backlinking idea is not bad at all.

my advice is do not deal with link farms. Its tempting because they can provide so many back links but google hates link farms and will penalize you.

    • Since you mentioned getting many CPC ad clicks and as many ad impressions possible (for CPM, since Google Adsense now supports CPM ads) is your main objective :

      • You should generate topic ideas that can interest people looking for relevant stuff that are possibly promoted by PPC advertisers. This means target the ad clicker crowd under the niche target market you'll be zoning on when you create this type of niche content. Then, write epic content that offers benefits not found elsewhere. Once your onsite content has been indexed in your site:

•You can submit it for possible syndication in ezine publication networks and content syndication channels. Submit your content to syndication networks where owners of sites about subject areas related to your target niche topics frequently go to find content that they can publish on their sites and newsletters, for the benefit of their regular viewres, RSS readers and mailing list subscribers. Also:

      • You can directly contact owners of sites and blogs that are heavily trafficked by a lot of people included in your target markets, to offer possible content syndication deals with them. Most will take content that's already published in your site, especially if its epic content that provides benefits not found elsewhere, though some will ask for original content (guest posting arrangements). You can weigh the benefits you can gain from creating original content and getting traffic in return, though this'd be more beneficial if you slap up a mailing list subscription box to your site and offer something that can entice people to sign up to your mailing list, especially if the possible return you could get is a lot of traffic comprised of people who can potentially turn into repeat buyers of your own products and affiliate products (once you decide to include these earning methods in your online venture). And:

      • Since Google AdSense now has CPM ads, then you'll also benefit from getting loads of unique visitors on your site. This means you can also include organic search traffic generation strategies into your online marketing campaigns, in which the first step is to target relevant, not-so-competitive exact match keywords with high local and global search volume. However, since Google frequently changes their SERP algorithm, don't depend too much on Google as your main traffic source. Instead, do the things mentioned above, among other ways that you can generate traffic outside Google...

I know you asked about off page SEO but a few more onsite SEO tips for you...

Use the free google keyword tool (external keyword tool) and identify some good keywords that are relevant to your site (do this first).

Use the "All in one SEO" plugin" which allows you to easily enter page title's and descriptions for each page. Make all your page titles unique and descriptive.

Always link to other pages within your site from your blog posts using keywords as anchor text.

        Hope this help!

Keep posting quality content that you'd find really interesting to read--articles that people while feel compelled to hit the "share" button about after reading. That alone can take you a long ways.
