Help for a not-so-newbie please...? bit of a strategy critique

During the last 2.5 years of my IM learning curve, I've been exposed to all the usual strategies and methods offered by all the usual people; and as with any business, there's plenty of good, plenty of s**t.

I've struggled to find, and commit to, a model that suits me and my personality. I'm gradually studying/applying the "Law of Attraction" to develop my personality/character.
I'm a full time employee, which is both a blessing and a curse; since time for developing my IM business is restricted, but it's provided the investment - historically anyway.

Anyway, during this 2.5 years, my ROI has been little; a few $s but not yet even enough for Clickbank to release my renue. My investment/funds/budget for my IM business has now dried up, and other circumstances (the current economic climate, for one) prevent me from further investment budget for the time being - until I get some ROI!

To give you an idea of my IM skillset to date, I've worked on two plans thus:

Plan A...

I was being mentored by Sean Mize, who's model is "massive action" in terms of submitting (original) articles to (mainly) EZA, and developing one's own product funnel (a coaching course with respect to my chosen niche). He relies purely on article marketing and no other media, for the low-end part of his funnel. Sean's income is substantial. When he started, he was writing up to 30 originals every day...

I signed up to his 250 articles per month subscription, rewriting them at a rate of 15 per week (average), and getting no refusals from EZA.

Problem was, it took all my effort to do just that amount sometimes, because although I seem ok at re-writing (plus writing a fair few originals) I quickly get stale/bored with it, in spite of the potential rewards. So I'm not sure that I have the mental energy (or time) to submit 15 article sper day, re-writes or otherwise.

Outsourcing would be the way to go, but is currently not an option. One other factor - note that I didn't say problem - is that the subscription only ever has 4 or 5 topics - during the months I was subscribed anyway. Sean critiqued a few of my re-writes, and suggested he'd be happy for me to do re-writes for him...

I started off in a (financial) niche that I was learning about before my IM activities began, in which, according to search tools, there's a quite a lot of interest.

However, I've had to learn how to build, upload, and market a website too, and by the time I'd figured how to that, I realised I had more knowledge about IM techniques per se, than in my niche. I also observed that the figures for competition versus hungry market, are in favour of IM by quite a margin. Rightly, or wrongly, my current plan is to follow the IM route with Sean's model.

So, I decided I needed a strategy to generate sufficient income to develop and outsource the above.

Onto plan B...

I found Steve Wag's affiliate blueprint (http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...ng-repost.html) and thought his model would suit my niche, and my character and current circumstances.

(At Step 3: Since I have hosting etc, I did a website instead of a blog. I have a blog too but it's rather sparse at the moment, and am unsure (exactly) how to furnish it).

I'm quite comfortable pursuing this model though, the only niggles being;

Step 7: This took a couple of weeks, but got there in the end. However, I have had only 39 views and 1 subscriber... in 6 days. so I'm hoping it may only be down to KW choice; PM me if you feel you have the inclination to offer a critique (that applies to blog too!). It's non-IM and I don't want to be seen as trying to spam or promo through WF.

Step 8: I'm still yet to fathom what constitutes a "free download site" is, in the eyes if an IMer promoting affiliate products. I could guess - and be way off target.

Thanks to Angela Edwards, I've a few months worth of backlink sites to get going with too, so am gradually applying that method to Steve's formula (Step 7.5 ) too. I find it a tedious process, but it has good reviews, so I'll struggle on with it since it's not someting I have to learn, just apply.

I really think that if I could get the plan B steps ironed out, then I may stand a chance of getting bit of ROI for my 2.5 years of effort, and be able to develop plan "A".

Plan B is one model I CAN apply... and then repeat. Yes, I'm historically guilty of opportunity-hopping, but these are two models that, importantly for me, I QUITE LIKE. I see one as being the "business model funnel" for the other.

Because of time and financial restraints, I've gone nowhere near W2.0, adsense, or PPC. One thing I find is that very often, in order to apply any one "IM tool", one is often obliged to pursue what quickly becomes another viral path of learning/sign-ups/folder-creating, and so another valuable week or two goes by in a flash. Not a complaint, just an observation.

Forgive my rambling, but I'd be really grateful for your thoughts, input, criticism etc. Does my strategy/approach make sense?

Thanks

    Hey Ian,

Sounds like you need a kickstart to get operating cash flowing.

If you could put together an info-product on your financial knowledge you could look for a j.v deal with someone who has a list big enough to get you a big lump sum of subscribers.

I say subscribers because you would have an easier time finding a j.v if you were willing to give them the profit. You just want some of their list to rub off on you.

So instead of nickle and diming yourself to death, invest your time on one project. Once you have a product you can use that to propel you into the next stage and so on.

You're right, if you are doing affiliate marketing then you don't really need to know about PPC or Adsense. Some knowledge of Web 2.0 would be useful to help you to drive traffic. So you are on the right lines. Steven's plan is good one, I would drop the Mizel stuff if you are finding it onerous and just follow Stevens ideas. Add your ideas to on how could you improve or tweak that system and think of your own systems.

I would not pay for courses, everything you need is available for free on this forum, there is no need to spend any money. As well as affiliate marketing you could write your own product in your niche and sell it for say $7 to get some income in.

You will know yourself when you have confidence in your plan you will feel naturally motivated. If you are not at this stage it means you are not happy with your strategy you need to continue learning until you are. Yes it is a steep learning curve and it takes time but it will pay off. Massive action is no good if it is wrong action or forced action.

As long as you keep developing your plan you will eventually get there. After two years you are much further down the road that you were at the start.

    all the best

    Hi Ian,

I've no problem with lengthy communications, although, in cases where a specific request is being made, it helps the reader, who has just likely waded in via dozens/hundreds of other articles/posts/sites/blogs, if you are more concise.

That being said, the first thing I feel the need to point out is that I use the phrase, "forgive me for rambling" as a sort of "alarm clock" to remind me that, instead of asking for my audience to forgive and decipher, it'd be kinder to grace them with a re-write.

And, as it seems, you're no stranger to re-writes, so, next time you think you're rambling, try your re-writing skills... for your own sake, really.

    *******

Now, the story you just told is but one version of a hundred thousand such stories. What it would help to know is "What is your goal?"

Imagine if your initial goal was to get your car and rent payment on autopilot? It might only take 1/10th the effort you're making above. But, if your goal is to travel the world and drink exotic drinks off the smalls of some island girl's backs, then you might need to outsource 10 times the work you've been doing.

THE PLAN COMES AFTER THE GOAL.

I mean, did i read you right that the guy who was supposedly paid to teach you how to make money online ended up wanting you to re-write articles for him?

That's a f***ing crime, if you ask me.

So, what is your initial goal?

    Best wishes,
    Eric

      Thanks BizBoost

No, Mr. Mize's suggestion was only in terms of a critique.

My goal is to be earning online what I'm being paid as an employee now (itro £40k - £50k per annum), by the start of next year.

I've struggled to find, and commit to, a model that suits me and my personality.
Ian, I think that's the key.

Can you describe yourself and your personality and goals a bit more? Without that, the request for advice is like someone saying "I tried pizza and didn't like it, then I tried sushi and didn't like it, what would I like for dinner?"

    Regards,
    Allen

Yes, Allen, the two models as outlined in my OP suit me nicely, as mentioned in the post. I'd just love to get the elusive answer, or direction to my point re step 8 from Steve W's plan!!! I've also added some linkng & backlinking too.

So that's the online business funnel plan that suits me.

Biz, I saw/saved that post too.
