Assigning new domain without just redirect?

Hello,

I have a question which one of the warriors would likely be able to answer, my blog/website is hosted and i have a main domain being my name say 'labno.com'. I have been building multiple blogs i.e labno.com/blog1 , labno.com/blog2 etc. I want to know can i assign a new domain to each of these sites so that when i type in my domain it doesnt just redirct to labno.com/blog2 after they have hit enter. I obviously would rather it to be newdomain.com then when they go on another page of it newdomain.com/page3 instead of each of my multiple logs refering to the main domain addresses, could anyone please tell me how i go about this please.

Cheers,

    So instead of labno.com/blog1 , labno.com/blog2
    you want newdomain.com/blog1 , newdomain.com/blog2.
    Is this correct?

    Instead of labno.com/blog1 , labno.com/blog2
I want newdomain1.com/blog1 , newdomain2.com/blog2 to seperate the multiple blogs from my root directory sdo they look independant.Currently all my blogs will be re-directed onto the main domain, is getting webspace for each domain the only way?

You don't have to get a new hosting account (webspace) for each if your
hosting account allows multiple domains. It does look like you will have to
purchase multiple domain names to accomplish what you want to do though.

I have purchased multiple domains and my hosting account allows the following:

    -Parked domains
    -Add on domains
    -Redirects

I have got them on redirects from a new domain but once its clicked through it reverts back to my root domain, i am wanting to know if it can remain under the r-directed new domain instead.

Add the new domains under the "Add-on Domains" as dave147 stated.
You will then have a folder for each of your new domains. Then you just
upload which ever blog post you want, (blog1, blog2) to which ever domain
      folder you want it in.

You will then be able to have newdomain1.com/blog1 , newdomain2.com/blog2. Each folder is like having a
seperate hosting account for each domain.

          You could also have newdomain1.com/blog1 , newdomain1.com/blog2,
          newdomain2.com/blog1 , newdomain2.com/blog2 etc. This would be
cheaper than buying a new domain for each blog.

easiest way to do this...is to see whether or not your hosting has the ability to have "add-on domains".

That way, you can do exactly what you're describing...because I actually do that.

I have many blogs on the same server, and purchase domains to link to each of them, without having to purchase additional hosting. I know hostgator is compatible with that

Right thanks for the great advice i have set up an add-onn domain and transfered my blog files into this new domain, when i type in the domain however it still refers me back to the labn.com/blog1 , could this be because i also still have the blog files in the folder for labno.com/blog1 or when i type in the new domian should it remain as newdomain.com/blog1?

Should i put the blog folders in the cgi-bin folder?

Right according to my hosting company it does not stay on mynewdomain.com because i have the original blog installed in another folder (of the main domain) so it keeps refering back to that, they said that if i try and delete the original the blog will stop working properly. Is this true? If so how an i get around this?

The way I do it is first i move the blogs files into a folder in the "public html" file. You can call it blog1 if you want. Then register a new domain. Set up the new domain to the name servers of your hosting company. Next, from the control panel of your hosting company I point the domain to the folder of the blog.

my blog is in a directory in my public html file , i first set up the add-on domain and copied it from the original into the new domain folder, if i deleted the original would it stop working as i think this is the only way to stop it refering back to the original domain after i type in the new domain.

I guess every web hosting service is a little different. The first time I did this I called them up and they walked me through the whole thing. It's been simple to do ever since. Maybe you should give customer service a try?
