90/10 rule: How to produce quality results with only 2 hours each day.

Hi warriors,

Jeremiah here. First of all, I'm NOT telling you what to do.. I'm merely sharing with you what works for me, something that change the quality on my IM life. That's all to it, I just want to share the good stuff with you and hopefully you'll benefit from it.

FOCUS:

It's really simple, the key word here is "FOCUS." Most of us are aware that the online world can be very distractive.. From online news, to youtube, to dramas, facebook and music etc. We are easily drawn away by these entertainments. Hardly do we spend time doing what NEEDS to be done.

For instance, let's say I want to write a 700 - 1000 words blog post, I can do it within 30 minutes IF I'm totally focus. But due to distraction, I ended up taking 3 - 6 hours just to complete a post, I would watch a video on youtube, I would wonder around on yahoo news, on my facebook account doing "inadequate" stuff. Instead of focusing on building up my business (or blog for this instance), I ended up wasting half the day on entertainments.

The 90/10 rules:

2 months ago, I chanced upon this quote "Vilfredo Paretos Principle: The 80-20 Rule: 80% of Results are Produced from 20% of Efforts."

I pondered over it for nights wondering if it's true. After several long nights, I still didn't come out with an answer and finally, I'd decided to give it a try.

This is how it works.. I give my 100% best effort on a task (any tasks) and totally focus on it for just 30 minutes! YEAH MAN, just 30 minutes!

After this 30 minutes is up, I'll give myself a long 1 hour break to do whatever I want. I can listen to audio, I can go grab a bit, I'll do some exercise (at home of course), watch a 45 minutes drama etc.. you get the point.

And after this 1 hour is up, I'll go back to 30 minutes "focusing." I'll focus on finishing up that task if it's not done within the first 30 minutes. If it's done, I'll move on to the next task.

I'll continue to do this for 4 times (each day). To break it down:

1) 4 x 30 minutes = 2 hours (100% effort and focus)
2) 4 x 60 minutes = 4 hours (Play, chill, relax)

Total hour spend = 6 hours

The quality of my work improve dramatically. I feel so much happier at the end of day. PLAY HARD WORK HARD. I compare myself to the past 3 years in IM and now I found myself to be a lot more productive working 6 hours (in fact, it's just 2 hours) than working 12 hours in the past.

This is just my little secret for getting quality results, living a more fulfilled life and be happier at the end of the day

Why do I call it 90/10 instead of 80/20?

There's 24 hours in a day and I only take 2 hours to work (I didn't include the 4 hours "playing" time). 2/24 x 100% = 8.3%

8.3% is definitely closer than 10% that's why I name it 90/10.

Thank you for coming this far

Of course, feel free to modify this method to suit your personalities, you can work 15 minutes and play for 30 minutes or you can work for 1 hour and play 2 hours. It's totally up to you... but personally, I find that 30 minutes 1 hour works best for me.

I hope this little trick will be beneficial to you, providing you with more sense of Fulfillment and happiness from within.

Feel free to share your thoughts below

Cheers,
Jeremiah

P.S. There are only 2 ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.

That's a good analysis and sharing of your personal formula for success, Jeremiah.
Personally, I can't do that because I am getting paid by the hour (I'm a help desk associate. haha). I can try what you just said about my personal businesses, however.

hmmn... seems worth giving it a try.

Haha. Yeah looking forward to see if this works for you

By the way.. I spend 20 minutes writing this thread, so now I'm gonna pamper myself by watching "walking dead season 2 episode 1" for the next 45 minutes. Hehe

      Ciao^

This is the best thing about Internet Marketing. We're not governed by the boss' preferred working style. In IM, we come up with our own formula for success.

Totally agree with you. I work 6 hours on IM each day (2 hours only though) and this thread is a bonus because I wrote it on overtime.

So I'd say that today is pretty much a productive day. I plan my own schedule, I live my own life, I'm just about the happiest being on the planet now

      Good luck.
