How can I transfer files from one website to another on Filezilla?

I am doing a website for a local business and I have set it up in wordpress on a sub domain and I want to transfer it over to the proper domain but I am not quite sure how to do this.

I am using filezilla, I can locate the domain on the right side.

Do I download then upload and if so could you explain the process in detail?

Thanks in advance

It depends on if they are on the same server or not. Here are very detailed instructions for a variety of scenarios. Pick what works.

If they are on the same server, you can just drag everything to another folder. If they are in different servers, you have to download first, and then upload.

Check with the hosting company. Many hosting outfits like Hostmonster have an internal FTP program--and you may very well be able to do it through "File Manager".

I have launched websites through File Manager alone, although I couldn't tell you how to do it today.

Hit up hosting tech on the phone some late night or odd hour and many will spend a lot of time with you and issues. Calling during the day, early evenings and weekends can be hectic for these guys and gals but if you catch them during a not so busy time you can get more from them.

    Hi all,

If you want to transfer files from one website to another on Filezilla? then you could run the "mini" version of CoreFTP server on port 22 on the desination machine and connect to it with WinSCP or CoreFTP client and do the transfer over a single port.

    Thanks

that's easy, there are many tutorials on the Interenet teach you how to do. at the same time, I recommend you try MultCloud, which is more easier and free. Adding ftp accounts to MultCloud first, then transferring.

FileZilla doesn't support server to server file transfer if I remember correctly so you have to download everything and then re-upload to the new server. Or, find other FTP client that support server to server transfer like CuteFTP.

Edit: Dang, didn't realize it's a 2 years old thread!

There are several good videos on YouTube about how to transfer a wordpress site. You have two things to deal with the files and the database. So, you have to essentially transfer the files and then recreate the database. There are some plugins that will make this easier. I think BackUp Buddy is one.

Download all content to computer, re-upload to new websites.

As far as databases, don't make it sound all complex and confuse him by calling it "database migration" it's not rocket science either. You simply visit your websites cPanel, go to PHPMyAdmin, select your database on the left-hand side, then click the "EXPORT" button on the top navigation.

    Not rocket science, guiz

*EDIT* Don't further handicap yourself by relying on some plugins. Educate yourself on how to do it and you will soon realize a lot of the stuff that seems complicated, really is not.

Keep it simple, download to a file on your computer and upload to the new host, just seems the easiest
