Page Ranking or Traffic?

Hello,

I wanted to thank everyone for giving me advice on how to build organic traffic. My next question to you is

What is more important, Page rank or traffic?

I am now doing backlinks for my sites, but realize that they may bring a higher page rank, but not necessarily more traffic.

Just wanted to pick your brain, and see what the successful warriors think.

    High PageRank will not do you any good if your website is not optimized for keywords that people actually search for (which in turn brings you traffic).

    I don't think its a question of this vs that, do both. SEO is not a instant traffic game, but you will get a ton in the long run.

    When building links, any traffic you get from those is a bonus, but the real benefit is with the higher ranks in Google results.

    Traffic will carry higher pagerank with it as well.
    From the other side crapshot backlinks could be easily discounted by Google down to nothing.
    I am strong believer of putting free useful stuff for people on your website. It will take some thinking, creativity and work - but it will "work" for you infinitely.
    I got about 3,000 pure organic backlinks + traffic + ranking + pure organic sales by doing that.

    Page rank is really just a marker for your site strength but not always. Go for quality dofollow backlinks with a good PR and you have your bases covered. I'd also suggest forum commenting in your niche as that can drive focused traffic too.

    I could care less about page rank, means so little these days, unless your selling links or ads. I want to know where I am ranked for my keywords. When I am ranked well, the traffic flows. I use a keyword ranking tool so I can see what I need to work on. It's all ranks for me.
