MY site appears to rank on page one yet no signups.

After considerable time and effort my site appears to rank its vampire roleplay board on page one of Google for the term "vampire roleplay." I tried this search on a browser I never use and it turned up my site's page for this topic, on the front page, I think result #3. I've been working at promoting and enhancing this site for months, so I am not surprised to see it there, but I am happy.

Now, I'm not getting any signups as a result of this, so I guess you could say that I accomplished step one and now need to accomplish step two, translating this to signups. Does anyone have advice for me on this measure? Should I refine that page's skin/theme, is there anything else you would do or do you see any clear reason why signups aren't happening despite visibility?

Or is this page not really on page one at all and it's my own browser's bias?

OR, is this keyword just not searched all that much? I have a hard time telling which keywords get used a lot vs a little. "Vampire RPG" seems a lot more popularly used and we don't rank for that at all, despite them being closely related.

Showing up first is pretty easy ...

Check the right column, if there are no ads, the search term is useless.

There are none, however, my #1 search term that has long got my main site lots of members {till recently} has no ads, and it's supplied my site just fine. I think it's because it really isn't a monetary-related niche, which is fine by me too.

Also the term "Vampire RPG" also turns up no ads and I know that one would get people clicking us. Or, I think it would

What are you offering for the signup?

How is the optin form designed?

How many visitors are you currently getting?

Can't answer with any decent solutions if we don't have any substantial details.

It is a free forum for roleplay and discussion. To sign up they enter a username and password and email that they would like to use, and then they are signed up, provided the username they want is not already in use. If it is, they pick another.

We currently get around 7,000 visitors a day. This is existing members + guests.

No problem, just ask for any details and I will give them.

try to place an add in the right corner as a flipping one, that will boost the attention and get more signup rate.

A flipping ad? Like an animated ad?

What should the ad be for? Since the entire site {the forums} are free to join. The primary people who use it are teens.

Thank you for the advice. I just need to know how to implement it

I'm just wondering what the ad should be for. I've nothing against putting an ad on my site if it'll increase signups My ads for new site features, contests, offerings and events normally go in the centre of the page, so one on the right would be new to me.

I'm confused. You get 7000 visits a day but no signups? You asked about a particular term, and that term gets 260 searches per month according to Google's keyword tool. At position #3 you are looking at like 1-2 visits per day most likely from that term.

So from all these 7K visitors they just lurk the forum and don't actually sign up? If this is a forum you can limit the amount of pages they can view and then they have to sign up before they can view more. Might be something you can try.

You should check your web analytics to see what search terms people are finding your site with.

You really need to know how many new visitors are hitting your site and how they are getting there.

btw, you are ranking on page 1 for 'vampire roleplay' at #6 (position will vary depending on where you check it from)

That's still page 1, yet people aren't clicking on it.

I use Statcounter to find the keywords people use. I've never seen Vampire Roleplay come up as one that gets used.

Is there a better one to use than Statcounter?
