New Domain: Kill Old Gmail & Start Over?

Hi all,

Still a newbie and in need of a bit of direction.

I have changed my domain name and built a new site. The old site is redirected and I am live and I have the new email directed to my current gmail account that has the old domain name. If I want to use Google+ etc. will it continue to show my old domain name - should I just start fresh with a new gmail account direct to my new domain?

Seems like easiest to add a new one, but then if you end up with multiple active domains do you have multiple separate gmail accounts?

Appreciate your thoughts on the best way to handle this.

If you are using the domain and site for professional uses, you should have your email address using that domain name. I know for myself, when I see a Yahoo/Gmail type of email address as the primary address of the company, that raises a red flag in my mind....

I have it redirected so it is labeled john at new address, but i log-in under the old address and I am not confident that when I log-in and set up something like Google plus will it keep defaulting to my old domain or allow me to completely substitute the new one? I don't have a whole lot vested into my prior domain, but if I set up multiple domains is it better to do under one master gmail with each having a unique John@domain or does it get controlled too much by the master account so the professionalism is affected as Warren notes. Appreciate your help - thanks

If new site only gaining momentum, you can use old domain address. If not, use new gmail account direct to new domain.

    Hello,

first of all, you can have as many accounts as you want. The only issue with this is management...What you can do is forward all your email to the same account.

second of all, and very important, you can have ur own domain account and still use Gmail as your email service provider. Google Apps offers this option (there are free plans).

So why cant you have the best of three worlds.

    1. Your own domain name
    2. Gmail as provider
    3. Manage everything from the same account.

    just a thought...
