My blog is getting 250k hits per month

Hi everyone, I have an online magazine that is currently receiving 150,000-250,000 hits per month. It is a very niche blog and I have over 137,000 twitter followers as well. Currently, I am using click bank to make some money off of it but I feel like I could be doing better than that. I'm only making a couple hundred bucks a week off click bank at best.

My question is are there any ad agencies or companies that I should be working with to enhance my earnings? The companies I am targeting are cigar, liquor, and novelty companies. Anyone have any ideas?

If you have that much traffic you could sell some Ad space. Try these

    Good Luck

With that many hits, I'd be tempted to try Adsense right away. Even with an abysmal conversion rate, you'd be doing better than you are with ClickBank.

Absolutely agree - as far as I have tried many ads programs, google adsense converts best and generates more money than others.

I'm a HUGE Clickbank fan and active aff but I've learned to never have all your eggs in one affiliate network basket... I would join as many reputable networks as you can and start finding relevant offers to promote. Visitors and followers are great but don't forget to push the opt-in. It's overstated but true -- the money IS in the list. Best of luck!

  • If you are doing well promoting a Clickbank product, then consider creating your own product based off a similar topic to the Clickbank product you are promoting.

That way, you receive 100% of the profits, and you can test and optimize your product's sales page and backend yourself in order to maximize profit. If you do it right, you're most probably going to be able to earn much more than you are getting from the Clickbank product once you get customer into your personally optimized funnel.

If you are looking for something easier, just get them onto a list and promote a series of products that would benefit them. You can even direct your list onto Adsense-optimized pages if that's your thing.

Try building an email list and developing strong relationships with your subscribers. Continue to provide value to them and come up with nice affiliate offers related to your niche. Find out what your subscribers are interested in the most and market that to them.
IMO, Adsense is for aged people lol. So I wouldn't hurry with it.

These are unique visitors and the main sources of traffic are from twitter (137,000 followers) and organic search engine traffic.

For a blog with that kind of traffic, I'd prepare a media kit including detailed information about my blog and its audience profile, blog stats, ad specifications (technical and contentwise) etc., then I'd put it on an "advertise with us" page. And, I'd send my media kit with a cover letter to all companies in my niche. Let's say, my visitors are mostly women. Then I'd send my kit also to the companies that cater to women.

This is how I monetize my websites as well as other advertising methods (AdSense, CB, other affiliate networks, own products etc.)

A blog about construction engineering that attracts industry professionals is worth more than a Flash games blog with teenage visitors from Asia.

Direct ad sales are usually the most profitable, but is very time consuming. There are buyers at every level, but the good accounts are going to want 500,000+ page views per month.

Earlier in the thread you mentioned wanting to target cigar and liquor companies. Don't be afraid to expand beyond that.

If your base is middle age males who have some wealth, consider other things they are interested in. While ads for cars, jewelry, fashion, travel and finance may fall outside the cigar niche, they may be relevant to your traffic's other interests.

I don't smoke so I can't say for certain, but I'll bet if you pick up a print magazine about cigars you'll see ads for Rolex, Mercedes, luxury travel and so on.

To be quite honest, I started by building an strong fan base on twitter. Once I had just over 1k followers, I created my blog and started posting pictures, cartoon comics, and anything funny that came to mind. After about 3 years of consistency and dedication the traffic started taking off. I think the most important thing, however, was that I paid attention to my readers and was careful about who or what I endorsed.

I wish I saw this post months ago, I had a cigar company approach me about advertising. I could of gave you their info.

Start with adsense, while having the adsense test out the following
    - VibrantMedia - Intext advertising
    - Blogads - this one is a little tricky you name your price for advertising sorta
    - BuySellAds

I would also try image advertisers, especially since you have a magazine site. Like those ads that appear on what people are wearing in your images and stuff... Luminate.

    Home - Luminate

    Wow, that is awesome.

The one thing you can try out is to join a CPA network and earn like $2-$4 per lead. Maybe this is what is going to take you from a few hundreds of dollars per week to even more.

Try it out and see if it is possible in your niche.

I'd do a survey to see what they are more interested in.. Then find a company that provides that more or less.. After than figure a joint venture partnership with them and split profits.

It's always a good sign when bad designs get good traffic. That means your content is resonating with viewers. The design is lackluster and void of any brand image though. That needs to be changed, but very carefully (a free WP template likely isn't the answer). If you can present the site as being age neutral and double or triple your traffic, that will really help in selling ad spots.

Do a "sponsored" post once a week where you write a review about an Amazon or other product using your affiliate link. Let users know that you will only do this once a week but you have to "rent out" ads to keep the site going.

The problem may be now is you just have banner ads which typically don't have the highest conversion rate on blogs and although you have an email list I'm betting the emails you send out just are alerts for blog posts?

Consider doing a bit more persuading.

    Hey Op,

I scanned this thread and only saw one mention of email marketing and that particular poster was referring to using it in only one way. Forgive me if I missed someone posting this already, but the WF is filled with posts and experts on email marketing and this is definitely the best way to maximize AND monetize your traffic.

I would simply put some sort of incentive offer (free something - ebook, etc,) on your site and offer it in exchange for their email address. If you have say 200K of monthly traffic, you should be able to pull in a min of 2K email addy's / month - and at that rate it would be dismal ; /

Then the email marketing kicks in. Maybe you sell them something after they opt in for the free thingy and/or maybe you market to them daily or every other day or weekly down the road.

I know there are CPA and other simple offers that relate to cigars, wine, etc, as well as affiliate programs that would love to have your traffic.

This is only one way to monetize, but I think it is key. You could easily have adsense or whatever your want besides this - although you need to layout the site so it isn't too ad driven.

Regardless, it's not a bad "problem" to have..... how to monetize a ton of traffic

selling ad space , allow for people or companies to advetise via "Media Buying" this gives you a nice and guaranteed monthly checks with that many hits you can charge about $300 per/banner a month imagine with 6 ads thats $1,800 per/month guaranteed since they pay upfront and then what you make with Clickbank.

You can ad adsense ads, if you don't like adsens try Clicksor or so many others just search PPC networks and see which best fits your blog.

I love the domain name. Nice going. If I was you, I'd become an amazon affiliate and start selling products related to the content. And obviously clickbank could work too.

I think the key is to just find some good stuff people would be interested in, and get it on there asap!

Depends a lot on the niche. I might recommend adsense ads. What you need to do is build an email list and that will help you promote your clickbank products. That is, if you don't already have one.

    Google adsense,
    Amazon affiliate link integration,
Possible ecommerce shop which you can drop ship cigars.

You seem to have the raw creative talent for IM. Keep up the good work.

Try getting them on an email list then:

    Do CPA offers
    Affiliate offers
    Own products
    Sky is the your limit.

There must be companies you can approach that offer high-priced or recurring products/services that are a fit with your readers. Brain storm and research different products/companies. See who advertises on similar sites as yours. Recurring commissions are the best, but high one-time commissions work as well.

Put together a small list of your top-picks and approach them. They don't have to set up affiliate software. I do my deals where they create custom landing pages for my readers for tracking. It works. I've created a 6 figure income with 2 companies this way ... and my traffic is a tiny fraction of yours.

It's more legwork and research, but one or two excellent deals will pay much more than Adsense and banner ads (you can do these as well). This approach works great with a list because you can continue promoting the companies/products/businesses on an ongoing basis.

I don't know your niches all that well, but surely there are some excellent opportunities for you. I see you're starting to build a list. Set up a survey on Survey Monkey to get an idea of the demographics (age, gender, interests and include an open-ended question such as "what do you to learn about?"). This way you're armed with info for finding appropriate products/services/software.

Other potential matches: investing products (these can pay very well on a recurring basis), other lucrative recreational products/software ... you know better than me.

At the end of the day you have a problem we'd all like to have.

I like the site. Thanks for posting the URL.

If you are getting that much, try CPM. Also, if it is STICKY traffic, I would suggest using popupdomination and harvest as much emails and form different email pools. You can then sell ad spots on these emails.
