How Do You Get Traffic From Social Networks?

Everyone always goes on and on about how social networks are the future but I can't figure out how to get traffic out of them. I'm just not making that connection in my head to where people are using them instead of search engines and can't figure it out. How do you get traffic from social networks?

  • Well, it's quite simple really.

First you have to understand what type of people are on which type of social network. There are various social networks out there. Different types of people frequent each of them, so you need to understand the crowd first.

Next, once you have a general understand of the crowd, you need to see if the crowd would be interested in what you have to offer. If you don't have anything that they would be interested in, then you won't be able to get traffic from the social networks no matter how you try.

If you have something that you think some people on your social network of choice would be interested, then try to get them to be aware of what you have to offer... subtly. Once they become aware of what you have to offer, and are interested in what you have to offer, then the people will come...

    in droves...

So if you appeal to one person, you are very much likely to appeal to a 100 more people who share the same interest by being featured in their newsfeed. The best way is to share quality content about your brand on social networks and start conversations with people who enjoy authority in your industry. To establish who these people could be, you could use websites like wefollow. Remember to have social media plugins on your website to allow people to share!
Good advice! We agree! Start being social on the social media sites and your brand will spread.

The success secret to any social media campaign is content. First observe and analyze what kind of content people like. It is simple to understand that people follow people with similar interests. These people are on all kinds of social media sites including Delicious, Digg, Stumbleupon, Twitter etc.
Make 5 – 10 friends every day in Stumbleupon, Digg, Twitter and Facebook. Start voting the stories of your friends regularly. Add more and more people as friends.
Submit your content and observe how many of them will vote for your content. Also comment first on the stories you think can reach front page. This way your profile gets more exposure.
Start experimenting with the topics. Observe which kind of topic is getting more votes. Write such content in your blog and submit it in the social networking sites.
Share your content to your followers, friends, subscribers.
Keep consistent with posting high-quality content as you don't want your audience to diminish.

    That's pretty much it

I can't agree more with the replies above. I'd one one more thing, you need to build a relationship with people. "Spamming" them with your links without building a relationship first will give you no result whatsoever.

Thank you for mentioning this. I can't stand when people consistently spam with the same link over and over. That will get you blocked/unfollowed immediately.

However, are you trying to convert social media to buying customers of something you are promoting. That would require additional steps.

Network, cross promote, and make sure to explore the different types of social networks.

The big question I would ask: Are you branding yourself or branding something different (service/product)?

This will guide what you do. If you focus on developing solid content and all the other posts then that is a great start. But figure out what you are doing for your own personal value in terms of social media. If you grow your own network, social influence, and network influence then you become your own marketer with millions of followers.

If you go to fiverr you find loads of people who have access to millions of viewers and can just push information. Granted this gets to be annoying to the followers but it illustrates what a large social influence can have.

IM and SEO invests so much with the emphasis on google and focused websites but you really have a whole new world available through direct communication with people through social media. You can have a great conversion rate but you have to make sure its something your target wants to see. It has it's own entire art.

The mindset in the end is conversations and engagement. Instead of waiting for google search you end up being able to engage and initiate through social media. But you have to start somewhere. Find networks, groups (like you have in WF) and establish yourself then connect via social networks and cross promote. Once you have a solid following you begin promoting.

Use as many social media networks as you need and are relative to you.

My 2 cents. (hope all that makes sense)

Well there are different methods for each social network but the two the produce the most visitors for me personally are Facebook and twitter.

With Facebook you go to fan pages of your niche and find the people asking questions and commenting on those pages and add them.

With twitter it's almost the same method but you would now be looking for gurus or popular people in your list not to follow them but get people that are following them to follow you.

Once you get the followers/friends start promoting your product you know they're already interested in what your product represents. This is referred to as targeting traffic.

    Hope this helps
    Best of luck

To get traffic from social media you have to use the high quality content on the page of yours. The content must be unique and interesting so that it can attract the visitors of these social networking websites. These social networking website have millions of the visitors per day and you can redirect them on your website by unique posts on these websites. These visitors can be the returning visitors of your website if they found relevant information on your website.

    Hi Jim Cruess!

The good thing about social media networks is that you can get free traffic as opposed to search engines and paid ads. They say it's for the future because Facebook is planning to enter and possibly dominate the search engine industry. Google is also focusing on social media with their Google+ pages mainly because social media networks is focused more on content rather than link building in search engine traffic. Take note that the number 1 priority of Google is bringing the right information to their searchers.
