I'm wondering if anyone knows if there are sites equivalent to jvnotify in the self help area.

or any other niche?

    assortment of niches.

      What a great idea!

      Meanwhile, one of the places to connect with self help stuff specifically is SelfGrowth. And of course, if you're a member of CB engine, you can get access to the brand new products, and since self help isn't nearly as competitive as IM, that could definitely get you started...
