Could you be more specific of what kind of images your planning to use? You can contact the owners of the images for permission or depeneding on what your website functions as, you can use images for free.

TMZ and sites like TMZ can use celeb images for free because they are reporting news on celebrities. So a little more clarification would help.

    Cheers!

Could this thread have been timed any better for the launch of viral image curator?

If not, I suggest you check that WSO out

I have been using morguefile they seem to have a good range. Can't post links as post count too low

Please check my other post where I explained how to find free images for commercial use.

Additionally, here are a couple of sites from my bookmarks where you can find public domain images to use in your projects:

    Pixabay - Public Domain Images
Public Domain Pictures - Free Stock Photos
    Public Domain Images
    OpenClipArt

Simply, do not use any image if you don't know its license info. That way, you will not have to worry about getting sued.

Whenever possible try to take pics yourself. If its a pic you could take yourself like of a car, box of cereal, etc take a pic yourself and use your own pic.

A few times I used images from Flickr. I used only the ones having attribution license. And I would always place a small link to the author's profile.
Nice source is wikimedia commons, also be careful about image license.

However I intend to buy quality images from now on. For example, bigstockphoto seems not too expensive for my needs.

Well, you can use the ones from Flickr that are cc. By the way, cc means creative commons. I often upload pictures to cc. Perhaps you can donate pictures of your own. Really, it is a great way to gain some exposure. Yeah, in more ways an one.
