I know it's a dumb question but if someone could help me out that would be awesome. I want a domain name dot com that's taken. If I buy a domain name dot org or dot net, does it make a difference for SEO?

FYI, the dot com domain that I want that's already taken does not have a site on it and is used solely for AdWords by the owner simply for redirect, so there would be no confusion. Thanks in advance!

I reallt think it wouldn't affect your SEO. Only if you don't know how to work with it.

I think the domain age is of more importance...just adds that extra edge with seo.

for your question above, no need to worry about SEO, it has nothing to do with it i think.

the importance is your keywords and your contents

I have not found any real difference between .com, .org and net. But I did notice a difference using .info. I have not tested any other extension.

I wouldn't worry too much on what your domain extension is. Yes most people do like .com as its the most popular domain name extension. Some people do suggest that other domain name extensions do help with SEO. In my opinion it doesn't do much if any. However if you can get a .net then take it. Some internet marketers out there suggest that .net does have some impact on SEO, if it does, I don't think much. The thing with SEO it's all about content, keywords and anchor tags. Using keyword rich titles and having keywords in your domain helps too. If you use these properly and building up your link popularity either through reciprocal links or one way links (one way links better) you can get great search engine results by doing the appropriate things.

So really it does not matter. An example for this is like Kijiji whose domain name has no keywords period but yet it appears in top search results usually. You don't have to have keyword in domain name to rank high, it may help some but not necessary. It's how you do your website and do the important things needed to rank high. So using a .net instead of .com won't matter for SEO. Do the things needed and you'll get high search engine rankings.
