Because you're an idiot.

Received an email with a subject line something like:

"Why haven't you responded yet?"

My reply?

"Because you're an idiot."

I went on and told him I really didn't think he was
but did think that when I read the subject.

He never replied back.

What subject lines have made you instantly think of
a negative reply?

Well I saw this subject line once: ""Because you're an idiot."

And my gut reaction was, "I have no doubt you are."

Every time I see a subject line or headline that starts with "Who else wants to..." I always think, "not me."

It has always struck me as somewhat odd that this classic headline broke one of the cardinal rules of copywriting. If you think about the circumstances under which you might use the phrase 'who else' you realise that you would never use it when speaking directly to one person.

And you're right - it's tired and overused. But at least it signals to us that the person using it does not know what they're doing, at least, in terms of copywriting.

I guess you were actually naive for thinking this person actually checked their email and listened to what their list had to say.

    Lesson learnt.

    How about this one?

Click the link below to release the pending delay on the account.

And then when you click on the link, it takes you to a sales page that has nothing to do with releasing any pending payments. I bet that guy is losing subscribers by the day.
